Conexant CX22702 DVB-T & TBS 6981 DVB-S/S2 issues

Added by Black Eagle about 8 years ago

Having used the DVB-T tuner for several years with no issues (it's a Winfast TV1000) I acquired a TBS 6981 sat card for pennies and installed it yesterday. Driver installation (from the TBS website) was painless and the card is recognised and working in TVH no problem.

However, the DVB-T tuner now appears to TVH as a DVB-S card and so I have lost my freeview capability. This wouldn't really be an issue apart from the fact that several channels aren't available on Freesat that are on Freeview !

So, how can I tell or configure TVH to use DVB-T for that card, as at the moment that option isn't available.

The tree looks as follows:-

/dev/dvb/adapter0 [conexant CX22702 DVB-T]
    Conexant CX22702 DVB-T : DVB-S #0
        Universal LNB Only
/dev/dvb/adapter1 [TurboSight TBS 6981 DVBS/S2 frontend]
    TurboSight TBS 6981 DVBS/S2 frontend : DVB-S #0
        4-Port switch (universal LNB)
/dev/dvb/adapter2 [all the same as adapter 1 !!]

OS is Ubuntu 14.04 with kernel 4.5.0, TVH version is 4.1-2141~g01c26fc

Any help anyone can give me would be really appreciated.

Try use crazycat driver for TBS
there is bug in tbs driver conflicting with other tuners

I'd love to be able to use the CrazyCat drivers, but unfortunately, both those and those of ljalves fail when trying to apply the backport patches - I haven't had much time to look at this but I would certainly prefer running the OSS drivers to the proprietary ones if at all possible.

In the meantime, I discovered that the TBS driver install does not correctly replace all the modules in drivers/media which appears to have been the root cause of the DVB-T card appearing as DVB-S.

I now have both cards showing correctly in TVH but I'm still having issues with DVB-T. The initial scan went correctly (this is with both TBS tuners disabled) and all channels were found and mapped correctly. I then enabled the TBS tuners and scanned for channels. Again this went fine and all channels were correctly found and added.

Problem I have now is that I cannot get back onto the DVB-T tuner. TVH's log says there is no input available. At this stage I'm not sure if this is a driver issue or a TVH issue. I'll try and confirm either way if I can figure out the backport patch issues and/or see if Kaffeine can tune the DVB-T card if I stop TVH.

Kind of need to get it working one way or another as the wife is getting annoyed now :(

~==EDIT==~

Looks like a TVH issue. Kaffeine can swap between both cards with no issues. That doesn't help my Kodi installs though :(
