DVB-C missing - MN88473
Added by Anthony Thomas about 8 years ago
I've used an MN88473 USB DVB-C/T/T2 tuner with TVH successfully in the past (apart from some high frequency issues, but that's the driver and not TVH).
It seems after creating a fresh install of my setup that the DVB-C option for this tuner has disappeared.
Setup:
RPi Model B - 512MB
Raspbian Lite - fully updated (apt-get update + upgrade etc)
Kernel - 4.4.20+ #908
TVH 4.1-2236~g817f67e from Johnathan Thomson's unofficial repo
Previously 3 tuners would show
MN88473 - DVB-C
MN88473 - DVB-T
RTL2832 - DVB-T
Now only the DVB-T options appear.
Tuner firmware is as previous from here - http://palosaari.fi/linux/v4l-dvb/firmware/MN88473/01/latest/
Any suggestions or ideas as to why this might have happened? And ways to fix it?
edit
w_scan does know there's a DVB-C tuner available
Info: using DVB adapter auto detection. /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0 -> "Realtek RTL2832 (DVB-T)" doesnt support CABLE -> SEARCH NEXT ONE. /dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend1 -> CABLE "Panasonic MN88473": very good :-))

Quick update
I decided to give minisatip a go since I was only using tvheadend as a satip server in this case.
After switching frontend0 and frontend1 to force minisatip to use the MN88473 part of the tuner (DVB-C/T2) it tunes to DVB-C channels with no problems.

Hey Anthony,
I'm having the exact same problem with the same stick right now. The first time after a fresh installation it finds one device (/dev/dvb/adapter0)). However, after one or two reboots or shutdown+starups it only can find the RTL283, and not the Panasonic DVB-T MN88473 - DVB-C and MN88473 - DVB-T. However I cannot find a solid pattern if it's about reboots or shutdowns (found some topics blaming this).
Do you have any recomendation on how to fix this (permanently)? Besides switching away from tvheadend ofcourse :p

If you search here for MN88473 then you will see some tips for that particular adapter. I had an issue similar to yours on OpenSuSE 13 years ago and others have reported problems tuning channels above 500MHz
