Transcode to raw MP2
Added by Adam W about 8 years ago
I'm trying to play satellite radio streams from TVHeadend on a Sonos (network connected audio player).
I want to add the TVH streams with their URLs as web radio channels on the Sonos, but none of the in-built transcode options work. I don't need to re-encode the audio (MP2 passthrough should work fine) but I need the output to be raw - no container. Just like a standard web radio stream on the internet!
Is there any way to do this? None of the container options available work.
Thanks1

Are you sure Sonos supports MP2? Most internet radio streams are/were MP3 (AAC and OGG are also popular) but not MP2 - MP2 is the default audio format for audio in MPEG2 video so is not usually associated with audio streaming.
I've tried all combinations of container format with all the audio formats in TVHeadend and got nothing out of my Sonos. Perhaps this pull request would satisfy the requirement - this would allow you to transcode to MP3 which the Sonos can play.

Hi Jonathan, thanks for your reply!
That pull request does look promising.
I'm sure I've played an MP2 stream which was from an online DAB digital radio monitoring site, through the Sonos and that worked. I could be misremembering though!
Hopefully once this has been implemented I can have another go in any case. I was just hoping to avoid quality loss by not transcoding the actual audio format.
