EPG not showing properly?

Added by Tom Johnson about 8 years ago

So maybe I am not quite understanding this, but if I have an EPG being fed to tvheadend via zap2xml and going to Plex via the tvheadend plugin, shouldn't I be able to see the EPG? All I see are the channels. Did I miss something? Is there another plugin I need? I assumed this would give me a grid like layout similar to what Directv or Dish or any cable company would have. Did I misunderstand that?

Not duplicate. I got the zap2xml working, just not seeing a traditional guide.

And why is it so hard to get answers?
Why is there no clear cut step by step documentation?
I have seen Kodi guides, wondering why I don;t see the same thing in Plex?
Does Plex really suck that bad?

You've posted the same question (or very similar questions) twice and have responses on your other post.

Two people posted responses on your other thread?

Why is there no clear cut step by step documentation?

For that you'd need to ask the developers of the plugins you are using with Plex. These forums are only meant to support TVHeadend and the TVH plugin for Kodi.

I have seen Kodi guides, wondering why I don;t see the same thing in Plex?

See above.

Not at all. Plex is awesome, it's just not meant to stream live TV. I've got two plugins for TVHeadend installed on my Plex server and whilst they offer basic functionality, they cannot complete with the official TVH plugin for Plex which is designed specifically to offer a PVR-like solution.

If you really want to use Plex in some capacity then you would be better using Kodi with the PlexBMC plugin to give you your Plex library in Kodi whilst giving you the dedicated PVR functions that Kodi provides.

If you want a full EPG like a dedicated DVR then your only viable solution is Plex with the official TVH plugin - anything else will leave you disappointed (believe me, I've been there :) )

I have checked their app store and do not see the TVH app. I have the unofficial one. Where does one find the official one?

For which platform? If you mean Plex then there isn't an official app. The only officially supported client is Kodi with the TVH plugin. Everything else is maintained by 3rd party developers.

Give Kodi a go and see how you get on, it's a much more pleasing experience and more akin to a "proper" PVR.

So does the PlexBMC plugin give me a Plex font end just like Plex does, but with accessing Kodi instead of Plex? Trying to understand the purpose of it. I also noticed no app for TVH in the Kodi interface. I went to a shell and did apt-get install and got it installed from there. Is that correct?

The interface to TVH in Kodi is handled through the PVR subsystem. You have to (optionally install if you're on Linux and) enable the pvr.hts addon. Then, after the the addon is configured and enabled, you then need to enable Live TV in the settings.
