Support for QNAP fanless NAS?

Added by Tom Miller over 8 years ago

I'm currently looking into buying one of those nice looking, fanless NAS from Qnap. There is both an ARM as well as an x86 version available (HS-210 and HS-251).

However, I was unable to find any information on the Qnap site whether those devices also support TVHeadend. Is there a way to get TVHeadend running on those devices with USB DVB-C and DVB-S tuners?

So is no-one using a QNAP Nas to run TVHeadend?

I am using TVHeadend on a QNAP TS-212 (ARM) with a Sundtek DVB-C stick. Works very well for me.

TVHeadend on QNAP is a community version by "virtualdj", look at https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=276&t=109573 and https://forum.qnap.com/viewforum.php?f=276

I cannot praise "virtualdj" enough for his good work with TVHeadend on QNAP.

Thanks for the feedback.

Is there some kind of list of supported dvb-tuners? Or should basically every usb tuner work as long as there is a linux driver available?

Not aware. My best answer to this is to look under https://forum.qnap.com/viewforum.php?f=276 plus https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=276&t=57049 plus https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=276&t=77093

I do not think so. Verify the model you intend to buy by looking at the mentioned links.

In my view Sundtek will be easiest since "virtualdj" has a QPKG download for this plus for Tvheadend.
Note that the Sundtek "QPKG does NOT contain any driver; instead it is downloaded from the Sundtek website and installed on the QPKG directory."

This is the list of supported DVB hardware on the QNAP platform, if it's supported by QNAP then it should be supported by TVHeadend. The operating systems that these NAS' run is a stripped down version of Linux running custom (stripped down) kernels. Unless the devices are supported natively by the NAS manufacturer then you'll have a hard time getting a device to run.
