TBS 6909 - Query
Added by asnail boy1 over 8 years ago
Hi,
i'm thinking of purchasing 1 or 2 of the TBS 6909.
it has 4 inputs and 8 tuners.
It uses a multiswitch in the default mode so that you can attach a cable to each output of a Quad Lnb to each of the 4 inputs of the 6909.
This allows tuning of any 8 separate transponders.
from what i understand there is 2 ways (mode setting) of setting it up -
1. Multiswitch method, as above.
2. Each tuner shares an input.. (bypassing the multiswitch). From what i understand this is basically like using a splitter cable from 1 lnb output to 2 tuners.
To configure option 1 in tvheadend I assume it would just work as 8 seperate tuners without any none normal configs, as long as it's connected to the quad lnb via each input.
Questions:
To configure option 2, I assume this and correct me if i am wrong please (in case i purchase) - if i have tuners 0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7 displayed in Tvheadend then i'd configure each odd tuner to use the previous tuner as the "master tuner"?
-
assuming the above is correct :
if i'm using every other tuner as a master tuner, then will tvh prioritize the paired tuner which matches the polarisation/hi-lo ?
The reason i ask is because if it doesn't and i use option 2, then it's going to use up the tuners pretty quick - where as, if i was tuned into a Horizontal-High transponder and then my girlfriend tunes into a different transponder but also Horizontal-High and it used the same "input" which is shared by the tuner i'm using, then it will help fill the tuners more effectively..
i hope i explained myself well enough, if not let me know.
Basically, will TVHeadend, by priority, use up tuners with a master tuner that is already in use when possible.

About the card itself, does anyone know if it's possible to set 1 card as mode 0 and the other as mode 1 - looking on the tbs page it looked like a global setting.
What makes it more complicated for me is i'm using 3 satellites (using diseqc)...
I was thinking of having 1 card in Multiswitch mode connected to the main satellites octo lnb (using 4 of the ports), and the other card in the normal tuner sharing mode, with each input connected to a diseqc switch connected to the 3 satellites..
thanks

There are som limitations regarding diseq switching. I think it can only be done during driver loading.
The best would probably be to have separate cables from the 3 LNB's that you connect with Diseq today. That way you can tune 2 transponders on each of those lnb's at the time (limited to the poloarization set on each LNB). With the diseq you are limited to one polarization and one LNB at the time.

Hi Thanks,
I know that is the case for the normal mode but in "Mode 0",
i assume Diseqc works like normal if you set each odd tuner as a master tuner to the next tuner?

let me know if this isn't the case
