support for upcomming DVB-T2 GERMANY (HEVC/H.265-Codec) planned?

Added by Daisy Reiss over 8 years ago

Hi there,

from summer 2016 on, in Germany the DVB-T (1) will get a 9 months phase of simulcast with DVB-T2. This means, some classic muxes will vanish and be replaced with the newer ones. VHF (Pro7 in Hannover) will be completely removed. After the test time, Germany will completely switch to DVB-T2 in Q1/2017.

My question:
Are there any plans for further support of the German DVBT2?
Or shall I mount a dish on my roof?

The odd:
Germany will not use the standard DVB-T2 as in France. We will use a nonstandard extension: HEVC/H.265-Codec

(see:

I noticed HEVC went into the development branch recently. I have not tested it as I don't have any device that will play the HEVC 4K satellite streams at more that a few frames per second. I assume it should work fine.

If your card support T2 you will get T2. Some cards may have issues to get T2 even if they state to support T2. Hopefully it will be better now when T2 will be more common in more and more countries. Tvh supports HEVC and I have tested 4k satellite streams. In Sweden the T2 network so far uses h264 which normally works fine with tvh and e.g. kodi. h265 should be also be fine if your frontend support it.
