Multiple users on my tvheadend setup
Added by Rob Mccombe over 8 years ago
Hi folks
Not sure if this is possible but thought I would ask just in case it is.
What I would like to achieve is a way that I can add a extra device to my setup which say for instance uses its own account meaning that what they record etc is only visable to them.
At the moment I give my server details to my brother for his pi with kodi on so he can watch all the live channels etc. But when I record stuff obviously he can see it all and when he records stuff we see all his stuff.
That's why I just wondered if it's possible to say add a user with a seperate profile to keep his stuff seperate from ours.
Cheers all

Have a look at "configuration" -> "access entries". Add a new entry (user) and play with the "All DVR" and "All DVR (rw)" check boxes.
I did not try myself, but according to tvheadend help, it should do what you want.
Please feedback, might be also usefull for somebody else .

Brill that worked a treat.
If you select all dvr that option gives permission to all recordings so leaving it unchecked gives me what I wanted.
My last question is how can I have a hostname instead of giving out my ip address. I don't mind with my bro having it but I have a few friends interested and don't fancy giving them that. Also my ip has a habit of changing every now and then.
Cheers

Update.
Solved the hostname as well now :)
A website called noip has a handy little program for Linux that you can create a host name for your public ip instead of handing out you ip to your user's.
I must say once again I'm even more impressed with tvheadend software.
I might put some tutorials up when I get a bit of time to help others out as my next step is to build a separate server in my garage with a couple of quad tuners for my friends to use, hopefully I have enough upload speed from my isp for this
