Same error has happend again

Added by Rob Mccombe almost 9 years ago

Hi all,
A little while ago I posted on here regarding one of my tuners going missing from the tree of adapters in tvheadend but it was resolved by a reboot of server.

Last time it was one of my dvb-s tuners but this time it's one of my dvb-t tuners but a restart isn't fixing the problem this time.

Anybody know what could be causing this. I've been using it fine for last couple of weeks.
I've reinstalled ubuntu and it's solved it for now but what do I do if it does it again

Cheers

Has your kernel been automatically updated?

When it disappears again check dmesg that should give you some clues :).

Hi Mark :)

Kernel is still the same.
I've ran dmesg | grep dvb.
It picks up both tbs tuners and it picks up Hauppauge too but the Hauppauge says shared access what's all that about lol.
Is there any other dmesg commands I can run to see what's happening because it's happened again :(.
I've reinstalled everything it all worked fine until I scanned the dvb-t tuner, then after that and a reboot it's missing again.

Cheers

Can you post your dmesg to pastebin(or sprunge.us) & link it here

I wonder if you could be having an issue with the tuner cards trying to share interrupts. If some other device sharing the interrupt has a problem the OS could lock out that entire interrupt, including your tuners. There's an article here that explains how to avoid it for TBS cards, but I don't know how you would do it with another make of card, or if it would even be necessary.

Do you run one or more TBS PCIe cards under Linux? Check your IRQs… http://freetoairamerica.wordpress.com/2014/11/08/do-you-run-one-or-more-tbs-pcie-cards-under-linux-check-your-irqs/

This is something I'd completely forgot can happen with TBS cards! This might be worth trying!

Very good thinking K Shea!

I only run one tbs card and one Hauppauge card.
I have checked irqs and one of the adapters is shared by hda-Intel whatever that is but I have noticed other strange things when this problem occurs.
1. Being that it takes tvheadend around 5 mins to load, when kodibuntu loads from system being switched on it says lost connection to tvheadend for around 5 mins, which doesn't happen until the problem with the tuner missing happens.

2. When in desktop mode in lubuntu the speaker icon in bottom right corner doesn't appear when this problem with the tuner missing happens also.

Also, surely if this was a interrupt problem it would effect the whole pci card, not just one tuner on that card.
I'm confused lol.

Also could this be possible.
The card I'm having problems with is a old Hauppauge hvr-3000, can the dvb-t and dvb-s tuners be use simultaneously on this card.

Cheers

Just want to update this post in case it helps anybody in the future.
My problem was due to my Hauppauge card not able to use both tuners at the same time.
How do I know this, if I enable the dvb-s tuner in tvheadend upon next restart the dvb-t tuner would disappear. If I disable the dvb-s tuner then restart it will then reappear.

This also does the same the other way around. If I enable the dvb-t tuner, upon a restart again the dvb-s tuner will not display in tvheadend this time.

But thanks for your time Mark and k Shea, the info you gave me was quite useful as when I looked into this my tbs card was in fact sharing irqs with my audio, nvidia and a couple of usb. So by following that post hopefully I have improved the system :)

Thanks guys
