De-interlacing options (for the new Apple TV)?

Added by Martin Ayla about 9 years ago

Hi

Thanks for my favourite open-source project :)

I got the new Apple TV 4, and I'm streaming live TV to it from Tvheadend (tvheadend-ng/Plex), but there are no de-interlacing options on the Apple TV client, so it would be very nice if it could be a transcoding option in Tvheadend.

Is that possible to implement at some point?

Thanks again,
Martin

What version of tvh are you running? All recent versions support transcoding, but they need to be built to include the ffmpeg libraries as relying on the ones you may already have is a bit hit-and-miss.

So, the easiest way is to clone either 4.0.x (stable) or master and build from there. If you say what you're running tvh on then someone may be able to help with the specific build options.

Thanks for the reply.

Maybe my post wasn't clear enough, but I have Tvh with transcoding installed already, and it works great :)

What I need is an option in Tvh's transcoding settings to deinterlace the video stream when transcoding it, because I can't deinterlace in the client (Apple TV 4).

Does that make sense?

Thanks

Ah, okay - apologies, I understood "if it could be a transcoding option" as "if there were the ability to transcode" and not "if it could be an option within the transcoding function". My misunderstanding.

There's been work recently around "filter chains" in the transcoding, e.g. commit:c63371c. I don't know any more about it, but it might be worth looking at the most recent unstable builds, or building from source against the current master, to see what this offers.

No worries, thanks a lot for the help.

I'm using the latest github master, but how can I use the 'filter chain' when they are not exposed in the web UI?

Unless someone appears here who knows, I'd suggest going to #hts on IRC and asking there - mlau might be on, and he's the author of that commit, so that looks like a good place to start!

Thanks again, I hope a future commit will add the deinterlace options to the web UI.

Martin, you are transcoding to MP4 on the fly?

What is your server machine?

But we want to deinterlance live tv in real time. Any update here ? Need this for watching football an formel one via tvh .

I would like to know this too. Is it already possible to deinterlace while transcoding?
many thanks!
