Best suggested tvheadend backend version for OSMC frontend?
Added by Anders Gustafsson about 9 years ago
Assuming OSMC is the frontend and tvheadend backend running on OpenSUSE. What would be the best (stable version) to run?
I have played with various versions 3.x and 4.x with an older PCI TV card (A twinhan PVR-250 using v41-cx2341x-end.fw) and it worked so far as getting signal and epg, picture quality was horrid though. Got an TripleStick 292e friday, but it would not play ball with 4.x, so currently running 3.4-1.13.x86_64.
Just checking what is the best option to install as I do not want to muck around with the system, once running

Runs fine, can record and watch on all units but OSMC, but I guess it is an OSMC issue - Update solved it

Also: I'd love to help out if i can with translation into swedish. Is there a quick howto how to get started?

Isn't that card analogue? 4.x will not work with Analogue cards.

If you're planning on sticking with that analogue card, you're best sticking with 3.4. I suppose you could pipe the analogue into Tvheadend or run 3.4 & pass the channels to to 4.x.

Neither card is Analogue. The PVR-250 is a DVB-T only PCI and the TripleStick is both DVB-T and DVB-C (USB). In 3.x it shows up as one card, presumably DVB-T as it works as that. In 4.x it showed up as two separate cards, one DVB-T and one DVB-C.
So, with this in mind, 4.x is the way to go?
I am planning to have multiple tuners to be able to record several things at once.
Edit: Tested with a fast 64-bit machine and 3.4 yesterday. Tested a slower 32-bit machine with 4.0.5 today and it works fine as long as I download the latest FW from Anttis page. Where would be the best place to summarise what I had to do to get this card working?
The Triplestick will show up as two cards. One for DVB-T one for DVB-C. It has only one tuner though, so you have to enable one of them, not both. Have now tested both DVB-T and DVB-C. Works fine so far!
