TVHeadend / Ubuntu 15.04 noob wanting to go Kodi

Added by Thor Johannsen about 9 years ago

Hi everybody,

I am pretty new to the Linux world and I am currently running Ubuntu 15.04 on my HTPC (intended for Kodi) with a Digital Devices Cine-S2 v6 TV card. After being appalled by the fact of how much data Windows 10 wants to leech from my System, I kindly decided to leave the Mic and Mac world for good! The overall impression of Ubuntu is awesome, even if my learning curve is steep as hell right now.

Anyhow, to my question: how can I uninstall the configuration files of TVHeadend???

I would like to run a fresh install of TVHeadend since it giving me headaches with crashes and login-issues after reboot...

Thanks in advance!

You can find the config in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend.

Make sure that you stop Tvheadend first (sudo service tvheadend stop).

Be aware that deleting all files will also delete the superuser account that gets created during setup, so you'll need to run sudo dpkg-reconfigure tvheadend afterwards to recreate the superuser account or you'll get locked out & the only way to fix that is by editing a script and running Tvheadend with the --noacl argument.

I am getting pretty frustrated atm, because I can't get TVHeadend to stream to Kodi. If someone could point me to the right directions I would gladly take some advice...

A little more details on my situation:
Problem 1 - I got TVHeadend 4.1 installed on Ubuntu 15.04. Currently I am having issues after rebooting the system. I always have to "sudo service tvheadend (re)start", or else I can't open the localhost via browser. I assume this isn't "works as designed".

Problem 2 - I have all the programs on Astra 19.2E (mostly German and Sky DE) mapped and the epg is running as well. So it seems as if my Digital Devices Cine S2 was installed correctly from the tutorials I found on the internet. And the signal strength is around 80% (which used to be more than enough with DVBViewer I used to use in a previous Windows setup). Now to the problem: I can't view any of the channels. Neither in VLC nore in the window that opens from the browser. Is this normal?

Problem 3 - In Kodi I keep getting connection errors. By default Kodi adds the address something like a3:0d:43:bla:bla... If I change it to 127.0.0.1 or 192.168... I get the same errors. I have configured the HTS plugin with the "admin"-name and password I added to TVHeadend.

Where am I going wrong?

Thanks in advance!

I have Digital Devices Cine S2 as well, so I can tell you that it works well... if configured correctly.
I can't quite make out what you are doing wrong.... you have kodi and tvheadend on the same machine, right? And you have no problems with Kodi, except for this? What do you have in tvheadend webinterface -> configuration -> access entries?

Can you see your kodi in status -> connections?

You could also, now that you are getting out of the dark and into the Linux-world, install an IRC-client and join us at the IRC-channel, #hts. It is a very friendly community, and a lot of people there can help you with stuff like this.

Correct.

Yep. The only thing that seemed awkward was that Kodi crashed initially after I tried to activate the TV settings. But after I restarted Kodi, I had no problems installing iptvsimple or the tvheadend plugin (except for the "can't connect"-error.

Question: should I be using the address Kodi created after discovering TVHeadend? Or is it better to use the localhost IP (127.0.0.1)?

What do you have in tvheadend webinterface -> configuration -> access
I've configured two accounts. Both of them have admin rights.

Can you see your kodi in status -> connections?
Unfortunately not.

that it works well... if configured correctly.
I don't know... maybe this is the problem. I used this tutorial: https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/DVB-Karten/Digital_Devices_Cine_S2
I hope you understand German ;-) Basically the tutorial teaches you how to compile the drivers yourself, which I followed ...until I realized the tutorial also offers an automatic installation at the bottom of the page. And then I chose that over the manual installation.
But since TVHeadend recognized a tvcard and started collecting data, I thought everything was working correctly.

Does your TVHeadend reconize the card by it's correct name? Mine says "STV090x Multistandard DVB-S #0".

Will do :)

Well, concerning the address, I have kodi and tvh on different machines, so I use the other machine's IP, 192.168.1.8.

Ja, danke, mein Deutsch ist nicht vollstandich, aber gut genug. The tutorial seems fine.... but I guess if tvh does not see Kodi, that's the main problem.
You can see channels and stuff in the TVH webinterface? If so, the installation of the hardware is obviously not the problem.

I seem to recall having some problems as well when I first activated the Kodi addon for tvheadend... I can't quite remember why..... but please check and doublecheck the settings. What does the addon say when connecting?

By default Kodi adds the address something like a3:0d:43:bla:bla...

Can you make a printscreen of this? That seems to me like a mac address.

Currently I am having issues after rebooting the system. I always have to "sudo service tvheadend (re)start", or else I can't open the localhost via browser.

Do a reboot and right after "ps aux|grep tvh".
Then do a sudo "service tvheadend restart" and right after "ps aux|grep tvh".
Post the entire lines.

Hi,
Sorry for Theater late response.

I spent some time downgrading to Ubuntu 14.04. Thats solved the reboot issues I had with tvheadend.

Now I am encountering the phenomenon that tvheadend wont map any of my encrypted services. Grrr!! God I just hope its worth the struggle!!

What am I doing wrong???

Sorry, no idea about encrypted muxes.
Hang in there - it took me ~2 weeks to get it working, and a few months to make my setup stable. And I'm a senior linux admin, I should know linux..

If it weren't for your last sentence, your words would've been exactly what I needed to hear. ;)

To map encrypted channels there should be a checkbox that you have to select saying map encrypted services (or something similar) otherwise it just skips the encrypted ones.

Im running ubuntu 15.04 with latest git tvheadend (updated daily) and have no problems with tvheadend.
