Problems with linux kernel 4.2, 4.2.1, 4.2.2 and 4.3rc3

Added by Al B about 9 years ago

I am reposting this here to try get ore attention as I dont think its actualy a descrambling issue (where I origionaly posted).

Posted 2015-09-06:

Is anyone else haveing issues with linux kernel 4.2 and descrambling?

I am using oscam and with kernel 4.1.6 everything works fine but after upgradeing to kernel 4.2 only freeview stations are working all others (eg sky1) say no input detected yet if i downgrade to 4.1.6 without making any other changes everything works fine.

Im running ubuntu server 15.04 with a dvbsky s952 and a dvbsky t9580.

Today 2015-10-03:
I have since tested kernel 4.2.1 kernel 4.2.2 and 4.3rc3 all with the same issue the sky channels are no longer found on a fresh install of tvheadend on 2 seperate systems (total of over 200 services are missing).

After a reboot if I had found the channels with a previous kernel eg 4.1.6-4.1.8 I can play 1 sky channel but after that I get no input available.

It's a driver issue affecting devices using the Montage M88DS3103 demodulator using kernels above 4.1.6. Older demodulators like the Montage M88DS3002 aren't affected.

Using newer kernels the driver fails to tune to some frequencies 11778V27500 on 28E for example.

Not sure where or how to report it, the linuxtv mailing list was pretty useless the last time I tried to report anything.

I'm using:-

DVBSky T9580 (revision 2).
Tevii S471.

Crope (the guy who writes the driver) has already fixed the problem! I've spent the last few hours testing patches (read: copy/pasting commands :p) with him over IRC. He says "it will go very soon to 4.3 and then to 4.2 stable".

If you can't wait look for "9cd700e m88ds3103: use own update_bits() implementation" & "a8e2219 [media] m88ds3103: use regmap for I2C register access" in the linux media mailing list, you should also be able to find it on http://git.linuxtv.org/ (just do a search).

Many thanks Crope!

That's good news. Im having a bit of trouble finding the patches / mailing list so will wait for 4.2.3 and see if they land there.

Thanks for that. Does it work on both 4.1 and 4.2 kenels? As I just checked the changelogs and it doesn't look like it was added to 4.1.10 or 4.2.3.

I'm not sure, Try it and see I suppose, be sure to post your results (as I will mine!)

I compiled 4.2.3 with the patch and it appears to be working at the moment at least.

Just an update. kernel 4.2.4 does not have the patch integrated so the patch is still required.
