problems with multiple active atsc tuners
Added by Larry Craddock over 9 years ago
Hi everyone.
I'm new to TVHeadend but I've done a lot of reading and am certainly willing to do more if someone can point me in the right direction. My setup:
I have Ubuntu 14.04.1 running on a system with an Intel quad core i5-3470 3.20GHz processor, 16gB memory, and 1 TB sata drive. My home network is a mix of 100/1000mbps and wireless devices. This box is 1000mbps. I also have 3 KWorld UB-435Q USB 2.0 tuners attached. I'm running tvheadend 4.0.5 and had no trouble installing and getting the basic setup done. EPG is working great.
I have a mixture of PCs, tablets, smartphones, and TVs with Raspberry Pi's running OpenELEC.
I can watch live TV from any device on my network, wired or wireless, without problems as long as it is the only client OR multiple clients are watching the same thing.
The problem occurs when more than one tuner is subscribed at a time. As long as only one subscription is active there are no transport or continuity errors. So I've watched the status and as soon as another device opens a subscription on a different tuner both transport and continuity errors start piling up on both subscriptions and both streams stop fairly quick. To eliminate the network as a problem I have opened 3 separate windows on the machine running tvheadend with the Watch TV button on the EPG page of the web console and tested there with the same results. I can start a stream on one window with no issues. I then start a stream on one or two more and it falls apart. I can kill any 2 streams and the remaining subscription starts playing correctly. Using that technique I have verified that all 3 tuners work as long as they're the only one active.
I'm at a loss what to try next. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks much

Do you monitoring IRQ?
Intel mobo's have lot of problems with USB and IRQ
Turning of lot of mobo devices as sound card com ports etc. solve problem sometimes.

Thanks Saen, I'm not monitoring IRQs. There's not much load on system resources at all so I assume you're referring to conflicts. I'll do some digging and see if I can find out how to do that. Maybe tail dmesg?
thanks again

cat /proc/interrupts
I prefer Webmin + Historic System Statistics

Any updates?
I'm poking about here to see if this will be useful to me here in the Toronto area. I'm looking at using two tuners, one each on my two antennas, one for Toronto and the other for Buffalo.
