Paspberry Pi Version

Added by Geoff Lane over 9 years ago

Folks,

I am quite successfully running HTS Tvheadend 3.4~wheezy on a Raspberry Pi but see the web page shows the version is up to 4.2

I've done the R-Pi update and upgrade but 3.4 is still the current version, I know the coding for the ARM processor can be different to normal Linux so am just enquiring where would I enquire about possible updates?

Hi,

take it from here:
https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/14829

These builds are compile by a forum user and hosted on his own server on:

https://nihil.selfhost.eu/tvheadend/

Still, it would be fine to have a deb repository for the Raspberry Version.

Is there a chance that anybody would do this?

Yes we would like this. It would need somebody who runs it on ARM to make for us a cross--compile build.

See: https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend-build#cross-compiling-for-arm and onwards.

It's just that nobody has stepped forward yet with a working cross-compile build (or instructions) for building on intel x86. Of course anyone can build on ARM hardware... but as you might imagine it can take ages.

In meantime you have 2 options:

  • Use nihils builds
  • Use arch linux official tvheadend pkg (they have ARM versions of it)

Well, hopefully someone with the knowledge may come forward.

I have been using the build instructions from that link above and it works great.

Just build it yourself. My tvheadend pi install has been up for days. That has never happened.

Neil,

Re your advice; will I have to uninstall my current version?

Also, will it stop/start/restart using init.d or would I have to set up a script for that?

All done by dpkg assuming you build the deb package and install/upgrade via "dpkg -i tvheadend*.deb"

RE: Paspberry Pi Version - Added by Geoff Lane over 9 years ago

Didn't see any reference to dpkg on the instruction page.

Which link?

The first banner says setup CROSS_COMPILE env then mentions cygwyn didn't work and the first link is broken.

Trouble is, if you are not sure what you are doing a link often refers to other links then you end up with numerous links open.

The link by Nils to a separate forum post. It has all the information you need.
