Issue setting up Elgato Netstream 4sat
Added by Kevin Davies over 9 years ago
Hi all
Having a strange problem setting up this SAT>IP with TVHeadend, however it works successfully using DVBlink.
TVHeadend version 3.9.2825
Netstream is automatically detected by TVHeadend.
After initial configuration only 1 MUX scan is successful, rest say no data failed.
Restart TVHeadend and again 1 MUX scan is successful, rest failed.
If I scan each one manually one by one leaving 1-2mins between each they all scan successfully.
However when I attempt a stream it works correctly for exactly 1 minute. Then the stream freezes. Any new streams fail and any MUX scans fail at this time.
Restart TVHeadend and again I can stream again but only for 1 minute!
I'm sure there must be a setting somewhere that i'm missing, any ideas based on the above?
Appreciate any assistance, i'm loathed to stick with DVBlink due to no EPG OTA on UK Freesat and slow channel changes.

Hi Kevin,
I´m also trying to get the Elgato Netstream 4Sat working, but I do always end up with "Scan Result - FAIL".
TVHeadend 3.9.2827~g477feab~trusty on Ubuntu 14.04
I created a network called "Sat" and every tuner / position points to that.
Netstream was detected by TVH, I did also try to restart the Netstream and TVH but no change.
Perhaps you can see an error in my configuration in the screenshots.
Any help appreciated!

Hi Max
Glad to hear i'm not alone in trying to get this to work.
A couple of thing I've spotted in your screenshots that don't work if I try them in my setup...
1) Take out any IP address bindings you have for your tuners, when I tried using this option it wouldn't work at all.
2) Change your linked input from IPTV to not linked
Other that that our settings are the same (apart from I use 28.2 here and not 19.2).
As mentioned above I can only get TVHeadend to stream for 1 minute though before I have to restart it again. MUX scans are successful as long as I restart TVHeadend and scan each MUX manually one by one leaving 1-2mins between each.
Not sure if you are aware but you can check the status of the Netstream 4Sat by going to http://netstreamip/status
It gives realtime streaming info on connected clients, I have noticed that after failed streams/mux scans TVHeadend doesn't even seem to attempt to make a connection until it is restarted.
If you have any more luck then please let me know

Hey Kevin,
thanks for your quick response. I changed it and it worked - but: I can watch a stream only as you mentioned only for about one minute. After this I have to restart TVH and can watch for a minute again.
The Netstream Status link was new to me and helped a lot - thanx!
Did you manage to get it working longer?

Hey Max
Glad I've managed to help you a bit but I haven't managed to make any progress googling the crap out of it!!
Still have the same problem, was hoping that you might of had more luck than me. At least now we both know it's got to be something to do with TVHeadend since we are both experiencing the same problem.
Please post any progress and I will do the same.
Anyone else have any comments or suggestions?

Hi,
I also have the Netstream 4sat and have the same issue as well.
I tracked it down a little. Tvheadend does communicate with the box just fine. I does issue the rtsp play command and the box does start playing. Tvheadend however seams to be waiting for something and therefore does not continue. The Netstream has a timeout that after 1 minute without receiving any control command from Tvheadend it will expire the session.
The question is what is Tvheadend waiting for. I did a tcpdump and have seen that the 4sat response to the PLAY command seems to send a header attribute content-length: 0

Does anybody have an idea? I did look at the source code, but unfortunately I don't know much about C.
