poll TIMEOUT

Added by Benedikt Volkmer over 9 years ago

Hey,
since ca. half a year my setup isn't running anymore. I hadn't much time until now to fix it.
The error is, the following while scanning muxes:

2015-04-22 17:46:05.059 mpegts: 113MHz in Unity - tuning on DRXK DVB-C DVB-T : DVB-C #0
2015-04-22 17:46:05.059 opentv-ausat: registering mux 113MHz in Unity
2015-04-22 17:46:05.061 subscription: 003F: "scan" subscribing to mux "113MHz", weight: 5, adapter: "DRXK DVB-C DVB-T : DVB-C #0", network: "Unity", service: "Raw PID Subscription"
2015-04-22 17:46:06.120 linuxdvb: DRXK DVB-C DVB-T : DVB-C #0 - poll TIMEOUT
2015-04-22 17:46:10.000 mpegts: 113MHz in Unity - scan no data, failed
2015-04-22 17:46:10.000 subscription: 003F: "scan" unsubscribing

I found exactly 2 things with this error.
First a post at this forum that wasn't replied to and doesn't suites to me as it wont work after reboot.
And second a solution for a bug in linux kernel, that is fixed for month now.
So I'm wondering what causes this.

As hinted before, it worked in all its facettes, so generally the hardware supported.
Here is my system:
Distribution: ArchLinux x64
Kernel: 3.19.3-3-ARCH
Adapter: TerraTec H5 DVB-T/-C Rev.3 using kernel module em28xx
TvHeadend: latest git commit (just updated): d416038

Greetings,
X4fyr

Unfortunately there are very few people actually working on Tvheadend so many posts go unanswered, don't take it personally.

poll TIMEOUT & scan no data, failed indicate that the issue is either with the hardware or the frequency used is incorrect. Make sure that the frequency is 100% correct, correct number of zeros, etc.

I have a PCTV Nanostick that uses the em28xx module and up until recently this would fail for no reason, however it appears to be resolved in newer kernels.

I compared the configuration to those given by the provider (Unitymedia), and found no mistakes.

So you say I didn't worked for you either. What do you mean with newer Kernels? 3.19.3 is almost the newest, and the newest in archLinux repos.

No, it did work for me, just it would fail without warning, taking everything else with it. That was with kernels 3.17-3.19. 4.0.0 Seems to have resolved those issues. However you still should be getting something from your tuner. Try increasing the values in the adapter config (Status Period (ms), etc). 'Force old status:' may help too.

I know this may sound stupid but you're sure you're entering the correct frequencies with the correct number of zeros? Tvheadend 3.4 used to allow you to enter say 754000 but 3.9 needs extra zeros e.g 754000000, same goes for Symbol Rate - but I'm not sure if DVB-C needs that (I only have DVB-T & S/S2 here).

If Tvheadend is failing to find services try using something like w-scan to check the frequencies.
