I think you may be confusing the tvheadend kodi/xbmc add-on (A frontend) with tvheadend itself (the backend).
You need to be running tvheadend or have access to a system running it to be able to use the kodi add-on.
The "connection lost" basically means there is no connection to the backend. Have you entered the IP (and user /pass) of the tvheadend system into the tvheadend add-on within kodi/xbmc?
