Dual Tuner usage possible? (CineS2 V6.5 on Ubuntu 14.04 server)

Added by Andreas Petereit almost 10 years ago

Hello,
I've got the Digital Devices CineS2 V6.5 and got it running in an Ubuntu 14.04 Server Distribution - so far so good. I installed TVHeadend and it worked also fine. Scanning works fine for both Tuners. Using Kodi on another machine I can start a record. But if I want looking in parallel another channel (out of the same mux or from another mux) it tells me that no free tuner is available (and both Streaming Actions are definitely the only ones).
What did I wrong while configuring TVHeadend? Is there something to Change in the Setting when scanning the second tuner? How does TVHeadend distinguish between the two Tuners (automatically)?

Please give me an idea how this is working and how to fix.

Thank you in advance,
Andreas

Under Configuration, DVB Inputs, TV Adapters, make sure both adapters appear in the list. Under each adapter, make sure that if necessary the SatConfig option is set to Advanced (and save it), then under Advanced make sure the number of Orbital Positions is correct (this will only be more than one if you have a tone or DiSEqC switch connected to the corresponding tuner input) and that the other information is correct and save. Then after you save that the corresponding number of positions should appear and you should edit each one with the appropriate information but (this is the important part) if the second tuner can receive the same channels as the first then make sure that there is only one Network (which you will have created in the Networks tab) used for both tuners and that it is selected in the Networks dropdown. If you created more than one Network and assign each tuner to a different Network then it may not realize it can use the second tuner for the same group of muxes.

I do not know if setting SatConfig to something other than Advanced would make any difference; I've always had to use Advanced because I use DiSEqC switches. The main thing is that if both tuners are receiving the same group of signals, for example if each of the tuners is connected to one side of a dual output LNB, then each of the tuners should be set to the same Network. And you have to create the Network yourself in the Configuration, DVB Inputs, Networks tab - if you haven't already created one, go to that tab, click on Add, and select the appropriate type from the dropdown and save.

Now if you are getting the same channel in different muxes or from a different satellite, etc. then I don't know how that is handled.

The post I was responding to seems to have been removed, but I was responding to this:

Under each adapter, make sure that if necessary the SatConfig option is set to Advanced (and save it), => I do not find any Option "Advanced". Below TV-Adapters I have General, Multiplexes, Services and Satellite Config

On the left side of the line showing the adapter there is a little rectangular box that you need to click to expose additional options. Note that certain options are not shown until you have completed previous configuration steps.

So if you see a line that says something like Adapter 0, and you see a little rectangular box just to the left, click on that and it should open up and underneath that you should see another line. Then you click on that and it should show the Satconfig option. This assumes the system is recognizing your card correctly.

Just as an aside, although you don't have a TBS MOI+, some of the TVHeadEnd screenshots in this article may help you understand what you should be seeing: http://freetoairamerica.wordpress.com/2014/09/06/review-of-the-tbs-moi-dvb-ss2-satellite-tv-linux-server-a-bit-like-a-hdhomerun-but-for-free-to-air-satellite-signals-2/#config

Note that those are from an older version of TVHeadEnd so some things will have changed but this basically illustrates what I was trying to explain in my earlier post, except it doesn't show that you have to create a Network in the Networks tab before it can be selected in the "Networks" dropdown (in the third TVHeadEnd screenshot on that page).

Your desire for a decent manual for TVHeadEnd is one that many people share. TVHeadEnd is a program that will drive you crazy the very first time you try to configure it, but after you get the hang of it, it's dead simple.

Hello K Shea,
thank you for your answers. Unfortunally I have used the stable version, which is about 2 years old.
That was the reason I could not find your tabs ...
After updating to the unstable actual version, it worded fine.
Sorry for the late answer but I continued just recently with the stuff.

best regards,
Andreas
