TVHGuide for Android
Added by Thomas Novin about 13 years ago
Anyone tried TVHGuide with success?
All I get is a channel listing. I have tried it on my HTC Sensation (Android 2.3.3).

I'm also missing the menu/settings button on my HTC One X
RE: TVHGuide for Android - Added by Glenn Tinker over 12 years ago
Not sure whether it was updated but i simply downloaded again and reinstalled and voila menu button was there on the One X. This is now one of my favourite apps when used in conjunction with xbmc. Streaming to phone also works well I use VPlayer as I used it with vdr and it works well. Next step is to sort out Tanscoding for watching whilst out and about but thats not a priority.

Using TVHguide on a MK802 Android mediaplayer to stream live TV via WiFi from a TVHeadend server setup with dual DVB-C cards.
HD channels works but not always smoothless, all others works perfect. I dont use transcoding.
I find MX player to work the best since it supports deinterlacing. Maybe BS player do also but I didnt find it :)
Many thanks for this greate app!

First off, what a great app! Discovered this accidentally and have been very impressed. Been using this successfully on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus running Jelly Bean. Streaming is working with BS Player & MX Player, but I am 90% confident that the transcoding is not working (the tvheadend server is installed on an OPENELEC Beta 5 machine). SD content looks great, HD is sort of viewable but framerate is pretty low with audio sync issues.
As an aside, I have a Sony Blu-Ray Google TV device and it occurred to me that this would be an absolute killer app for that platform (plug & play tv+pvr on any tv in the house). Streaming from the tvheadend web app works flawlessly using m3u playlists and gtvplayer (albeit clunky), so it would seem like all the pieces are there. Unfortunately honeycomb+ google tv devices disable the ability to install app's outside of market/play, but would happily volunteer to help beta test if you could somehow get this into google play.
Thanks for developing!

Guys,
Just to point out a few things, might already have been covered, apologies if they have
TVHGuide is (or wasn't, depends how you look at it) officially affiliated with TVHeadend. However following recent developments it now has much closer ties, the developer John Tornblom is now one of the TVH devs (along with Andreas, Hein and myself). So I'll be getting this much better promotion on the site soon as I can as I myself only stumbled on it by accident some months back.
Transcoding is NOT part of the official TVHeadend release, its John's own feature added to his fork specifically to work in co-operation with TVHGuide. However as he's now a dev and there are several other uses of the transcoding I've been trying to bug him to get it merged into the master, but he's also been working on some other cool features, so he wants to delay a bit. But you can always try his fork at github.com/john-tornblom/tvheadend.
I'm know he'd really appreciate any feedback on use of TVHGuide and the transcoding stuff. Note: transcoding branch may not be completely up to date with tvheadend/master, but it looks fairly close.
As for getting the app in Google Play, its not something I've tried raising with him, but I will.

I upgraded to the latest TVHGuide and transcodeV2 branch yesterday. This was a massive improvement for the playback on my Mele A1000 (Allwinner A10). Before the upgrade HD channels wouldn't even start playing, but now they play at full speed (with a lot of artifacts in the video though).
I do have some questions. I noticed that TVHGuide now uses the built-in Android player. Is that the (stock) player provided by the manufacturer of the firmware (TVDVideo in case of the Mele A1000)?
I also did some testing with external players. Playback performance seems much better when using MPEG-TS than when using Matroska, especially when using the stock android player. Is there any logical explanation for this?
Thanks.

great app!
I am unable to access from outside network though. It would be nice to schedule recordings from this app when you are away from home.
I am able to log in to tvheadend from outside network (3g) on a browser on my phone so I know I set up my router correctly.
Is this app only for accessing through your home wifi?
RE: TVHGuide for Android - Added by Adam Sutton about 12 years ago
Have you opened both ports. Johns app uses htsp for control. Port 9982.

I have the same problem.

thanks - it worked! Forgot the other port.
I get an error when trying to play from my phone (samsung galaxy 3). MAybe because I am using tvheadend for qnap. I run it on my nas server. It has an intel atom cpu, so I don'øt know if it ever will be able to transcode. My phone is fast enough to play an untouched stream but my server only has 1mbit upload so a transcoded stream would probably be better for when I am on the 3g, away from my home wifi.

Hi, I need some help with settings. What are you running for setups?
On the server side I have a c2d Ubuntu machine runing the latest transcode_v2 version on a 100/100 mbit line.
I have a mt4gs with ISC on it. I manage to get video, and some time even audio but its rely stuttering and not smooth playing at all. Anyone what setings shuld I use? The build in player? What container and what transcoder? Any tips helpful!

Is it possible to have two installations of this app?
Using this app from both wifi and external 3g, I find it annoying to keep having to switch between my internal and external ip address under settings.
Maybe this could be a new feature? A quick way to switch between the two ip settings? An alternative would be two apps with different settings. Is this possible?

I'm using similar setup, except that I use a free dns hoster (eg. thvguide.dyndns.tv) for my external IP. At home, I've configured the wifi router to resolve the external host name with the internal IP. A workaround indeed, but I don't need to change anything and it's working perfect.
Cheers, Martin

I have a similar setup and have solved it by using my public DNS-name in tvhguide. When a host on the inside connects to it my router/firewall redirects it to the local host on my LAN.
I use iptables to do this with nat, PREROUTING & DNAT-features.
RE: TVHGuide for Android - Added by Stefano Lucchini about 12 years ago
The other night during an attack of insomnia I thought of something: if it's possible to stream a 1080p video with Subsonic that lowering the quality in 200/300Kbps, why lowering the resolution in TVHGuide can not get the same result? the answer is maybe that Subsonic can do that with thise script
ffmpeg -ss %o -t %d -i %s -async 1 -b %bk -s %wx%h -ar 44100 -ac 2 -v 0 -f mpegts -vcodec libx264 -preset superfast -acodec libmp3lame -threads 0 -
...and ffmpeg directly allows to lower the bit-rate.. would not be great if our server (with upload of 50-60Kb/s) were able to stream the signal everywhere??
Will be possible in the future to implement this function (or similar) or is destined to remain a nocturnal delirium?
and as always sorry for my english..

Dear forum.
I hope my issue is something very simple.
I have TVHeadend up and running.
I have installed de TVHGuide app on my phone.
I can watch live TV on my phone when I uncheck 'transcode stream' in the settings.
I can watch transcoded live TV only when I check 'MPEG-4 part2' and MPEG-2 audio layerII (MP2), Although I get numerous mpeg4 rc buffer underflow errors.
When I check AAC for audio and/or H.264 for video I get errors.
(On the PC running TVHeadend):
unable to find H264 decoder
Unable to open AAC decoder
And a message: Codec is experimental but experimental codecs are not enabled see -strict -2
The latter seems to be a good hint. However, how can I enable experimental codecs?
Where is my H264 codec?
I installed all the libavcodec-dev and so on.
