TV Headend stops working after some time
Added by Benni Zimmermann almost 10 years ago
Hi,
I have a great Synology NAS (DSM5.1) with a USB TV Stick from Sundtek. On top I have TVheadend with the version 3.4.27-6.
Everything is working fine. Really great. However, after some idle time (maybe 3 hours or so), TV headend stops working.
Checking the TVheadend web interface everything is list the same as before and OK, tvheadend package is still running fine,....
but the streaming is not working at all. Neither to IPad nor Android nor PC. When I reboot my NAS completely, everything is working
fine again and as expected.
Does anybody has a hint how to fix this?
Thanks for your input.

I'd guess at power save, either in the application (do you have it enabled in the config? It's 'keep front end open' or something, IIRC) or in the OS (and here I just don't know).

follow those steps, and use the latest tvheadend version.
Also be sure that you attach the tuner to a USB 2.0 port (USB 3.0 ports are currently not well supported by Linux).
Use tvheadend-testing from dierkse (just as indicated in the link)

Hi Guys,
thanks for the feedback. Let me come back....
1) all power/energy savings have been removed (incl shutdown during night ... but I doubt that this is the root-cause)
2) I have the latest tvheadend version installed provided by synocommunity (please let me know if there is another package source with a more recent version)
3) I have installed the latest sundtek driver provided by dierkse
4) the TV stick is connected to the USB2.0 port (if it would be on the wrong port I would expect that it is not working at all).
Let's see if the changed power-settings will help.

Use tvheadend-testing from dierske as mentioned, you can find the repository link in the sundtek/synology link.
uninstall the old tvheadend package from the synocommunity.

Hi,
I have 2 stupid questions:
1) once it is uninstalled, I assume I have to re-do all the configuration-steps. Correct?
2) I have already the sundtek/sinology as package-source. Shouldn't I see TVheadend twice in the list of available packages? (I only see it once)
Thanks for your answers.

... one more comment ....
the Sundtek driver from sundtek/sinology is listed in the list of available packages (and installed )

one time it will be tvheadend-testing.
You need to add the tvheadend-testing repository:
""
TVHeadend Synology Repository: http://syno.dierkse.nl/
be sure tvheadend is installed before the driver is installed
""
This is the latest available tvheadend version usually.
We've seen several odd things with older versions so we don't even keep track of what's going on with the older packages anymore.

Hi all,
it took me some time to revert back all the changes I did.
Between the different changes I wanted to check and ensure that it is still working as expected.
The current status is the following and everything is working as expected:> all energy saving options have been activated again> tvheadend is still 3.4.27-6 (with the latest driver)
-> the only thing which is different is the USB port - it was connected the backside USB (which is 3.0 ) and now it is connected to the front-side USB which is USB 2.0
For me the problem is solved. When I have more time (maybe during Christmas vacation) I will also try the newer Tvheadend package.
thanks for all your feedback.
