Failure to tune to DVB-S due to "invalid argument"

I have used tvheadend successfully with DVB-T and DVB-S, but beginning with Build: 3.9.1353~g99ed831~precise DVB-S no longer works (DVB-T still ok).

This is what the log says:

I had not changed the DVB configurations. After stopping tvheadend I used w_scan to create a channel.conf, and could play the resulting stations with vlc. So hardware is ok.

Even stranger (at least to me) is the fact that some 100 DVB-S muxes and some 400 services were found, but service names were found only for some few of those junk channels (shopping et al) on two separate muxes.

I am now in Build: 3.9.1354~g6e4a22a~precise and the problem is still there.

Only now DVB-S isn't even touched any more. I can stop and start tvheadend, and dvb-T is happily streamed, scanned, and epggrapped, but DVB-S does not even turn up in the debug log?
