August DVB-T210
Added by derp derp almost 11 years ago
Hi. Was wondering if this was compatible with tvheadend as there's not much information from users about this device. Does anyone have one? Is it working well with DVB-T2 channels and HD channels?
please let me know! thanks!

update: unfortunately the DVB-T2 stream in Germany is H.265 which is not supported by the Raspberry Pi 2.. any idea of what can I do?
The AMLogic S905 platforms support HEVC/H265 decoding and have good Kodi support. Early revisions of the chip had issues that caused corruption on some DVB streams - but newer models are fine. The ODroid C2, Wetek Hub etc. all have this chip and support HEVC/H265 (and as a bonus will do so up to 2160/60p with HDMI 2.0 output) They both run LibreElec and Android versions of Kodi. I've played 2160/59.94p and 50p recordings in H265 using both devices, and have also checked 1080/50p H265/HEVC encodes I mastered myself.
They support both 8 and 10 bit HEVC/H265 encodes - but the Kodi builds only output 8 bit (so 10 bit video is truncated)
HOWEVER - the AMLogic kernel lags way, way behind the Pi (so has far poorer DVB Driver support) - so I'd keep the Pi as your backend running TV Headend (so you can run the latest DVB driver builds), and stream to the ODroid C2 or Wetek Hub or similar over Ethernet.

Thanks for your answer. I just bought a Raspberry PI 3 because i read that with the last libreelec the H265 is supported at 720p and (probably) with some overclocking also the 1080p should be supported. I am waiting for the PI to arrive (it should be already here) and then i will start my tests and I will come back with some updates. If it won't work I will probably sell my PI2, keep the PI3 and buy an OdroidC2.

Crazy Cat,
I have Mygica PT360 and I'm using your media_tree git, I saw Antti Palosaari moved this tuner from cxusb to dvbsky. what do you think?
Mygica PT360 PadTV tuner identifies itself as a Mygica T230. Both are practically same design, but different case and PT360 does not have remote. However, device didn't work well due to know FX2 FIFO problem.
Newer dvbsky driver uses same API than old cxusb driver and it can handle FIFO issue. So move that T230/PT360 device to dvbsky driver.??

I not test Antti commit, but make similar TS FIFO reset in cxusb driver

I have similar problem as here:
https://tvheadend.org/boards/5/topics/10864?r=22337#message-22337
The tuner works good but after some time not usable until unplug and reconnect (sometimes only reboot works)
this is the message from dmesg:
dvb-usb: bulk message failed: -110 (1/0)
I'm using your media build and this is my fw files:

this another issue. maybe related to usb 3.0 host
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Laurie Davis about 8 years ago
I too have received a T230C (c689) and like others cannot get it to work with DVB-C. Same problem - cannot tune in TVH, lots of invalid checksum errors. It does work ok though on DVB-T2
I'm running CVH's Libreelec build which has this driver in it now, but it means I don't have w_scan so can't provide any diags.
Would be really great to get this working on DVB-C.
Thanks for all your work.

Same problem for me:

Device designed for DVB-T/T2 reception ane have some LNA before tuner IC. As i see your cable signal very strong ane maybe need connect via some attenuator (-20dB-15dB).
P.S.you can check all details of your signal in Windows with my CrazyScan2 software. Make RF-scan and search all available carriers with AirScan feature.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crazyscan/
Read wiki for info about install.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Ludovic L about 8 years ago
Transponders found: 0 with CrazyScan2. RF level between -12 and -18 dBm.
I will try to find an attenuator. Thanks a lot !

I added an attenuator before the stick. Now I have :
Transponders found: 58, RF level between -30 and -40 dBm with CrazyScan2.
With tvheadend I can find 12 services but I have a lot of transport and continuity errors and I can't watch any channel. SNR is 26.8dB and Signal Strength is -36.0 dBm.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Laurie Davis about 8 years ago
I tried an attenuator as well but it made no difference and remains unusable for DVB-C in TVH.

what system you are using
look this screen with dvb-c

Look like need some little attenuation :-) SNR is bad for 256qam

I am using Debian 8.6. Firmware is exactly the same as yours.
When I run w_scan, I get a lot of warnings:

What can I do now?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Ludovic L about 8 years ago
With a 20 dB attenuator signal is about -36 dBm, SNR is 26.8 dB
With a 10 dB attenuator signal is about -26 dBm, SNR is 27.3 dB
With a 5 dB attenuator signal is about -24 dBm, SNR is 34 dB
What SNR should I have with QAM256 ?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Ludovic L about 8 years ago
I made a Pi Attenuator with 2 75 Ohm resistors and a 4.7K Ohm resistor. The attenuation value is about 41 dB.
When I use this attenuator I have:
Signal: -29 dB (LNA ?), SNR 38.3 dB. I was able to map 175 channels (out of 420). I have some checksum and continuity errors and video artefacts.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Ludovic L about 8 years ago
I purchased a 50 dB attenuator. Signal is now -41 dBm, SNR is 45 dB. I still have many checksum errors and I can map 300 channels out of 420. SNR seems pretty good, i believe I should not have these checksum errors.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Dreamcat 4 about 8 years ago
Hello. Long time ago bought these August DVB-T210 v1. It worked perfectly after upgrading the linux kernel to past 3.18. So I put them away in a drawer. Now after a long time i dig them out of the drawer and run w_scan from an ubuntu 16.04 live CD...
Problem is there are no HD channel coming up anymore, and also many CRC errors in w_scan output. Its as if the driver has regressed back to behaving how it used to in prior early pre-3.17 kernel versions.
Any ideas what might be going on here? Do I need to perform some extra manual actions before running w_scan, like loading up some firmware files or anything like that? Or install some other apt packages in addition to just 'w-scan'? Any help appreciated, heres a pastie of the terminal (for 'uname -a', 'dmesg', and the 'w_scan ...' output)
https://gist.github.com/dreamcat4/044aeb0e0627b7a52f43225a4e6690a7
Do I need to go get some older ubuntu ISO, eg 15.04 and re-test to compare it against the older kernel? Or is there some simpler solution to stay with 16.04 / 4.4 kernel?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Dreamcat 4 about 8 years ago
Hello. Long time ago bought these August DVB-T210 v1
OK tried 15.04 liveCD, different USB port, different PC, everything I can think of but its no different. Over in windows 10 the HD channels work fine. Looking back at this thread it says CrazyCat patch is in kernel since 3.17. So not sure why this issue continues. Tuning contains CRC errors (assumed for the HD Channels), and then no HD Channels show up at the end of w_scan tuning.
Looks like there is no .fw file to load up. My dmesg again:

After installing media tree build, its still saying i2c bus error. Not sure how to enable more logging for debugging. But without doing anything else new dmesg now it shows a little more about the call stack. When this i2c bus error is occuring. It happens whenever the device is plugged into. Motherboard is an intel C232 chipset (skylake), with new intel usb chipset driver.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Bebetu _ almost 8 years ago
I have a Raspberry Pi2 with the with osmc, Kodi 17 Beta6 and TVH.
I went through installing CrazyCat's drivers (with some pain due mostly to osmc specifics) and the stick is recognized correctly as DVB-T/T2/C. The problem is that I cannot tune into any HD channels and for manually added ones I only get sound. Here are some details:
osmc@osmc:~$ uname -a Linux osmc 4.4.27-2-osmc #1 SMP PREEMPT Sun Oct 30 16:33:55 UTC 2016 armv7l GNU/Linux osmc@osmc:~$ lsusb Bus 001 Device 005: ID 0572:c689 Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc. .. osmc@osmc:~$ dmesg | grep si21 41e47503ed9e0069b30c04d5bf3e7eb86c00a06c si2157: ISDB-T support. d52879196556001ca7e8d05811d18c93e3c30576 si2183: Minor fix. 41e47503ed9e0069b30c04d5bf3e7eb86c00a06c si2157: ISDB-T support. d52879196556001ca7e8d05811d18c93e3c30576 si2183: Minor fix. tvheadend works OK with SD channels but neither w_scan nor scan-s2 or via TVH's GUI are able to tune into HD channels in my area (Berlin). I have manually added HD channels from the list here http://www.vdr-wiki.de/wiki/index.php/Channels.conf_DVBT-De-Berlin-Brandenburg but only one works (Das Erste HD) and only sound is available.
I've also tried the steps here https://tvheadend.org/boards/4/topics/21148 with no success either.
Is this because of the Raspberry Pi2 hardware not decoding HEVC/H.265? Any guidance is highly appreciated!
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by lord slash almost 8 years ago
Hello Bebetu, unfortunately as you said the PI is too slow to decode H.265 (the last LibreElec Buid can decode it but real time decoding is way too demanding). You can only hear the sound because you don't have the hardware acceleration enabled (you should enable the MMAL acceleration). I have tried the same you did (even though on TVHeadend I was also receiving ZDF HD and the other IRDeto encoded HD Channels) but without success. The only solution I see at the moment is to buy a faster device that supports the H265 format (I read that for example the ODroid C2 does) or to buy a decoder that supports DVB-T2 (I bought this one: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01I5LD2DM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 because it supports IRDeto decoding so you can also watch the encoded channels like Pro7 HD as long as they are free - June 2017).
I hope I was helpful, if you have questions feel free to ask!
