August DVB-T210
Added by derp derp over 10 years ago
Hi. Was wondering if this was compatible with tvheadend as there's not much information from users about this device. Does anyone have one? Is it working well with DVB-T2 channels and HD channels?
please let me know! thanks!

bit 0 or bit 1 ? DVB-T or T2 ?
Sorry for the late reply!
It appeared to be bit 1 of 0x71 in T2 mode.
However, I'm probably wrong as I can't reproduce it any longer.
Cheers

I've finally gotten a chance to give Crazy Cat's patch a go and i'm happy to report that it works flawlessly! Full mux reception works too - I can tune in to two different HD channels on separate devices through tvheadend.
Huge thanks to everyone that's worked on getting the DVB-T210 working with DVB-T2 streams!

Thanks everyone! CrazyCat when do you think this could be in the kernel?
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by dhead 666 over 10 years ago
Nice.
Pretty great the issue have been fixed.
I'm guessing that we will only see a fix in kernel 3.16 as 3.15 window was closed, so we probably will have both the 292e and the Mygica T220/August DVB-T210 to choose from.
It would still worth publishing an updated fix so it could be included in OpenELEC (maybe even in v4.0).

I will submit patches on days.
Also i have plan add support for Geniatech T220A (USB\VID_0572&PID_C686, with TDA18273 tuner).

Congrats and thanks to all for making this work, I finally watched live pictures through my RPi/Openelec this weekend
Question though - I am in an HD Freeview area but I could only see SD channels. Am I being a bit thick?
Edit - maybe I should explain my setup a wee bit better

I don't think that OE4 has the updated drivers that can do DVB-T2 yet. The drivers are not yet part of the kernel (I suppose it will take a couple of months).
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
George Clegg. OpenElec currently includes the old driver which was DVB-T only. The changes made by the amazing team in this thread haven't filtered into the current kernel, and thus aren't in OpenElec yet AFAIK. (It might be possible to get them to add them early?)

Thanks for the clarification. You may have guessed that not much of this makes sense to me, notwithstanding my awe and gratitude to the community for their efforts. My sincere thanks again to everyone for their work!
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
Are the revised drivers part of the standard Linux TV Media Build yet? i.e. if we follow this : http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers do we get the August T210 DVB-T2 support or do we need to patch still?
Thanks again for all the work on this. The August T210 with T2 is a very good value solution - and it has a standard connector!
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
Success!!
I think I've figured out how to apply the patch... (My mistake was to go for an older kernel not a younger one in the back ports list i.e. to apply the patch only to older kernels than mine, whereas at the moment it needs to go in all kernels (so the newest entry should have the patch applied)
Follow instructions here as normal to get the latest Linux TV drivers :
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/How_to_Obtain,_Build_and_Install_V4L-DVB_Device_Drivers
So (assuming you've got the required utilities installed like git, build-essentials etc.)
git clone git://linuxtv.org/media_build.git
But before you do the rest :
- Copy T220-fix.patch from here : https://tvheadend.org/attachments/download/1976/t220-fix.patch to the backports directory in media_build.
- Edit backports.txt and insert
add t220-fix.patch
after the first kernel reference - in my case [3.255.255] - to ensure all kernels are patched
The continue with the instructions to build and install i.e.cd media_build
./build
sudo make install
(Assuming you want to install and then reboot)
(Though I have noticed the odd I2C transfer error in dmesg - sometimes I have to unplug and replug the USB tuner to get it to initialise?)

It seems there's another version of the same stick out there:
http://www.tevii.com/Products_h650_1.asp
I have not tried that one, but the physical appearance is the same...
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Olli Salonen over 10 years ago
Hi,
I compiled a copy of OpenELEC 4.0.3 with the patch included (just Generic 64-bit, hopefully that's ok for you guys):
http://trsqr.net/olli/OpenELEC-Generic.x86_64-devel-20140603185742-r18390-g61f17d8.tar
For me the patched version does not work, but even the media build drivers patched with CrazyCat's patch on top of my Ubuntu 14.04 on another PC do not work. So it might be that I have a faulty device or something. When I say it does not work, it seems to me as if the signal quality would be very low. It does not find any DVB-T2 channels and only sporadically the normal DVB-T channels (I should have 40+ channels and w_scan finds 19-38 channels). w_scan also throws me several errors like: "WARNING: received garbage data: crc = 0xbb7ef20f; expected crc = 0x00000000. increasing filter timeout."
From the same cable, I get all channels consistently with good signal quality using a PCTV 290e. I suppose that there could be something wrong with the device too, since this behaviour was observed also earlier using this stick. Anyway, let me know how does it work for you.
Question: Since kernel 3.14.4 includes the T220 support, shouldn't it be ok to just patch the files there with the t220-fix.patch? At least the resulting files were identical with the media-build ones after patching (they included the ts_clock_inv things).

Works for me on an Acer Revo RL80- though the OpenElec / TV Headend combo crashes quite a lot in that build I can scan both UK T2 muxes from Crystal Palace in London within TV Headend (I leave everything on Auto other than Mux bandwidth for the T2 channels. The all of the T muxes are automatically added by network discovery after adding a single T mux manually).
PSB3 (545800kHz 32k 256QAM) channels (BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three/CBBC, ITV and Channel Four - all HD) tune OK and are viewable - though not always consistently. For some reason COM7 (570000kHz 32k 256QAM) channels (BBC Four/CBeebies HD, BBC News HD, Al Jazeera Eng HD and Al Jazeera Arabic SD) scan - but OpenElec crashes when I try to watch them.
For me the patched version does not work, but even the media build drivers patched with CrazyCat's patch on top of my Ubuntu 14.04 on another PC do not work. I got those messages with an unpatched driver on T2 channels only - but with the patched version they went away. This was on a simple Ubuntu 13.10 install on an x86 Acer C720 Chromebook running Chrubuntu.
From the same cable, I get all channels consistently with good signal quality using a PCTV 290e. I suppose that there could be something wrong with the device too, since this behaviour was observed also earlier using this stick. Anyway, let me know how does it work for you.

RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
Update - looks to be a known issue with the version of TV Headend and XBMC on OpenElec. First tunes crash - but subsequent tunes to the same mux are OK. I can now watch both HD muxes on Crystal Palace. Hurrah.
Can't wait for this driver to be submitted so that it "just works". Thanks again everyone for their work on this. At least a lower cost T2 tuner! (Now if only someone can get the REALLY cheap chinese T2 tuners to work... Like these : http://blog.palosaari.fi/2013/10/naked-hardware-14-dvb-t2-usb-tv-stick.html - they appear to go for <£20 on eBay. Though the T210 is only £30 on Amazon - so still a much better bet than the ~£60 that the 290e/292e appears to go for at the moment)
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Olli Salonen over 10 years ago
OpenELEC 4.0.4 that was released yesterday contains the patch. No need to custom build OE anymore.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
Confirmed OE 4.0.4 and the included TV Headedn build is working with DVB-T2 and my August T210 USB tuner. The crash on first tune to each HD channel is there (as expected).

Folks, just another note of thanks - I recently watched some HD from my local (Blackhill) transmitter. Very groovy and, to be honest, incredible considering that this is down to the efforts of the community. Sincere thanks again. Cleggy.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by George Clegg over 10 years ago
A quick question...
While the image/frame quality via T2 is great I'm getting quite a bit of "artefacting" and motion blur, even with a very strong aerial signal. Is this down to processing power (or lack of) on the Pi would you say? I do have a reasonably powerful Debian server which runs all the time - could I get TVHeadEnd to run on this and point the Pi at it maybe, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Or any other advice gratefully received...
Many thanks,
Cleggy.
RE: August DVB-T210 - Added by Stephen Neal over 10 years ago
What are your de-interlacing settings configured as? Lots of the content on Freeview HD is native interlaced - so for fluid motion will need to be properly de-interlaced. XBMC defaults to not de-interlacing. It's a Video Setting you edit during playback (hit Enter whilst playing video, select the film-spool icon (if you are using Confluence) and then set de-interlace to Auto and then you can cycle through the de-interlace modes (I think the Pi works well with 'de-interlace' selected as the method) You can then set this as the default for all videos at the bottom of the video menu. (You can also disable subtitles being on as default in the audio menu)
Apologies if this is egg-sucking territory.
The Pi has a reasonably OK de-interlacer. Not perfect - but far from awful.

I appear to have ordered the Geniatech T220A by mistake, when I was intending to order the (Openelec natively supported) T220.
Is there any progress on support for the T220A?
I have the Openelec output from lsusb -v | pastebinit here:
Is there anything else I can provide that would be helpful in implementing this tuner?

I have T220A Work in progress (tda18273 driver, based on tda18272 by Mnu Abraham). 1-2 month.
