No TV Adapter tab in configuration page
Added by Angel Davila almost 11 years ago
Hi everyone, this is my first ever post! Now down to business.
I've been struggling to get live tv and dvr capabilities added to my newly built htpc for four days. Seriously, I've probably taken up so much time that I'll likely fail my law school finals. But anyway, I am running ubuntu saucy, I've successfully set up xbmc, along with blu ray capabilities. I had gotten mythtv to play a channel or two (digital) on a previous mythbuntu build over the weekend on an hd homerun dual and decided that I really wanted my analog channels. Anyway, I received a new hard drive, decided to start from scratch in Ubuntu saucy since it was a new pc anyway.
In my current configuration, aside from mythtv finding no channels with my HVR 950q tuner, I did get the backend setup working. Since I could get no channels, and after some research, I tried kaffeine. It worked and even found channels, but nothing played. So I decided to try tvheadend (actually it was my first choice, but the repository for stable builds didn't have anything for saucy yet). I installed tvheadend from the unstable repository and, long story not so short, no tv adapter tab in the configuration page.
I've tried uninstalling both myth and kaf. Scantv finds channels, although it gives them all question marks and says they are unknown. It actually took me a while to get the stupid xc5000 driver to make it work at least this much. I've seen a lot of references to permissions, but I only superficially understand the concept (which user, group, etc. can read, write, execute), so there may be an issue there, although I'd need some help even figuring out if that's the problem. That having been said, from my extensive googling, I believe the issue is simply that some remnant of mythtv doesn't want to let my adapter go.
I don't know how to post terminal outputs on forums, but I'll try to provide any information you ask for, including terminal outputs if you tell me how it is done. Sorry for the superlong post, I just don't know what information may be important.

A couple of things I somehow didn't mention in the above novel. I think I should point out once again that this is a new pc, so I have no problem changing my ubuntu version or even downloading a different distro entirely. I simply thought the simpler solution may be to fix this particular setup. By all means, if the easiest solution is to try a different distro just say so.
Also, I mostly want to use the pc for xbmc, the reason I put in a full blown distro as opposed to openelec or something is to have access to a computer on my tv for internet, maybe the occassional game. Also, I haven't really gotten ssh to work yet, although it is on my list of things to learn. That said, in this case, I didn't even get to the point where I would try to use xbmc with tvheadend so I doubt that's the problem.

I guess I'm still curious about what the issue here may have been for me, but it has been a day with no response, so I just decided to try a different distro and see if I have any more success. I don't say this bitterly or angrily (it is so hard to convey inflection with these things), I'm simply frustrated and impatient with trying to get a simple live tv and/or dvr working with my htpc.
I understand that it takes time and effort to post on these things and if someone already started looking into this, I'm sorry for bailing on this issue. If you are reading this and you haven't, don't. I won't revisit the potential cause of this problem unless I run into the same problems with the new distro.
UPDATE:
Nope, still having the same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. Now I'm thinking the no tab thing is somehow related to an issue with my 950q tv tuner. Someone please help!
UPDATE (part 2):
Nevermind, I got it to start searching through the channels for services.
