Initial Mux scans for hdhomerun dual stop very early, no services found.

Added by Greg Herrick over 11 years ago

I have an HDHomeRun Dual tuner. I am running Ubuntu 12.04LTS on an Acer Revo 3610. I have been googling and gleaning information from here, from lonelycoder, from lifehacker, etc., as I progress in setting up TVHeadend. (v3.4)

I have installed dvbhdhomerun, and my two tuners DO show in my tvheadend configuration. I am repeatedly failing at scanning my muxes. The scan will start from 69, and then slooowwwwwllllyyyy decrement but invariably stall (I have left it "scanning" all night) somewhere in the 40s, above all of my desired ATSC services, without ever having found any ATSC services.

I have experimented with the HDHomeRun using Windows 7 Media Center and Linux MythTV, confirming that my antenna and HDHomeRun are indeed receving signals. For the life of me, I cannot use the HTS-TVHeadEnd (localhost:9981) web interface to scan and maintain my muxes. Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank You.

Hi,

I have no solution for you. I am experiencing the same issue with my HDHomeRun running TVHeadend 3.4 and ubuntu 12.04
Hopefully we figure something out soon. I still have about 50 muxes left to scan but it keeps hanging like you.

Thanks to anyone that can help.

Ryan

Hi Greg,

I was able to scan all my muxes after I updated the firmware on the HDHomerun.
I also generated my own DVB location by following this guide:
https://www.lonelycoder.com/redmine/boards/4/topics/6063
after doing such, I got 16 muxes from my area and scanned those. Make sure to read the replies because there is awk command to format the output data easily. just make sure you switch qam256 to 8VSB if you are using OTA channels.

I still don't have a working system but at least I am able to scan all my muxes.

Keep me posted if you get things working.

Hi, Ryan,

Thank you for your help here. I did execute the HDHomeRun command line scan and then the appropriate awk sequence, so I now have a file which looks (to me) to be of the format that TVHeadend wants to to find all the muxes. However, with my installation of TVHeadend, I do not "already" have that full directory path to place this new file; I did not have the "tvheadend" directory under /usr/local/... so I went ahead and created that subdirectory path to place my file under ".../atsc/us_OH_Cleveland"

From my initial attempts, I am unable to get TVHeadend to find/see this file under its list of US locations. TVHeadend did some more unsuccessful scanning for muxes last night.

I admit that I am not fully understanding how TVHeadend works and "what I should be doing" to make it work. Sometimes I find the "localhost:9981" UI locked up, at which point I make efforts to "restart" TVHeadend, which then leads to "page not found"... and then I just end up rebooting. Sometimes, it seems to me, TVHeadend just starts scanning (ultimately unsuccessfully) on its own as soon as I open up the localhost:9981 UI.

Yes, I am confused and frustrated (and impatient) with this. You've definitely helped me get one step closer here, but it sounds like you have gotten an additional step closer than I. I will keep researching and experimenting with this.

Thanks again for your help.
Greg

Hi Greg,

I understand your frustration. To find where to drop your newly created scanned mux file, search for one of the DVB locations on your filesystem. I think I searched for "Boise" and found the location where these files were kept. then I simply moved the file into that location and it appeared in TVheadend.

I am still stuck. I can scan the muxes but no services are generated. It's quite frustrating.

good luck

Ryan
