Map DVB services to channels greyed out
Added by cab guy almost 12 years ago
Hi all,
I am new to TVHeadend, and wonder if I could get some pointers please?
I have managed to select my local transponder, and it came back with 6 Muxes and waited till 0 awaiting initial scan, but I believe my next step is to click "Map DVB services to channels" except it is greyed out.
i'm not sure where to look next I'm afraid. I have 6 Multiplexes listed all on different frequencies all 100% quality. Services is empty
My hardware is a Sony Play TV connected by USB to a HP Microserver N40L, running Ubuntu 3.2.0-23 on top of VMware workstation on top of Windows Server 2008 R2.

anyone got any thoughts please? I'm really stumped.
Efforts:
- Tried it on 2 different versions of Ubuntu. 12.10 and XBMCbuntu
- Tried deleting some multiplexes
- Tried searching to see what my network name is, no joy but tried some random things in the "Original Network ID" box i.e. name of my DVB-T transmitter
- Tried upgrading from 2.99 TVHE to 3.2.34
Here's a screenshot in case it helps anyone to help me!

Just guessing with what seems to have become my specialist subject...
How are you getting those muxes? Are you using the "select by location" function? If so, have you moved to digital wherever you are (chances are good that this is "yes", if you're in the UK it's "yes, guaranteed")?
My guess is that you've picked up the old analogue frequencies, which will be detected but don't carry any DTT services (by definition) - hence, nothing detected. Find your correct digital mux frequencies and add them by hand.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I'm in the UK. I did what you said and added a Mux manually and out of the few I entered, it managed to find services from one mux. I don't know what's wrong with the other ones, which is my first new problem, but the second new problem is taxing me the most and it's that I can't work out how to get the services to be mapped to channels. The Map Services to Channels Button won't work in General, and I've tried manually entering channelk names for example. I have put a screenshot of this in.

Okay, we're making progress. What transmitter are you on - Sutton Coldfield, I'd guess? Whatever it is, look it up on ukfree.tv. Make a note of the mux frequencies listed there (e.g. 522.2MHz or similar). Delete the muxes you have, and add all of these one at a time manually:
Frequency: <in kHz, so e.g. 522200 for the above example)
Bandwidth: 8MHz
Everything else: Auto
You should have five or six muxes, depending on whether you have HD (your stick doesn't support Freeview HD, though, so one mux will be dead most likely).
Once you've added them, they should scan and you should find services. Once scanning is complete, the Map Service to Channels button should become available. Click it and see what happens...

Thanks for the reply again! I was beginning to let it beat me
Just before I saw your reply I resorted to a time-tested IT method of rebooting, and hey presto the Map Service to Channels button became enabled! It mapped the channels nicely and I could watch TV on my XBMC, now I can really feel progress I'm very happy!

I guess it was either that or resort to percussive maintenance :-)
Glad you're running. Welcome to tvheadend!
