Struggling with initial setup - finding multiplexers
Added by Will Kostelecky almost 12 years ago
I can select my dvb-t usb dongle and then select the multiplexers for my local transmitter. They load and initially show a signal of 100% which degrades to nothing unless the monitor signal strength option is unchecked (in which case they stay at 100%). The name of the multiplexer never shows up and nor do any services. I have tried adding a mux manually but this seemed to make no difference. Really nice looking software if I could only get it to work. BTW, I know that my receiver is getting channels as Me TV works fine.

Ok, after another day of fiddling and googling I have services and channels. NOT EASY. There are a number of posts that imply that if you setup a good mux then Tvheadend will start finding the rest of them... This post [[http://www.stuffaboutcode.com/2012/12/tvheadend-no-services-found-setting-up.html]] shows how to find a good mux (though it should be noted that I had to try a number of them before finally getting one that worked well). Once the good mux was entered Tvheadend found the rest of the muxes which were then mapped to channels. Finally, after hours of blood, sweat, and tears. Seems like if Me TV can do this automatically...shouldnt Tvheadend be able to as well?

Unfortunately the database TVHeadend uses hasn't been updated for a while - it's still using the pre-Digital switch over database (I assume you are in the UK thanks to your previous link).
If instead of picking a specific transmitter you choose the Auto Detect multiplexes option then choose the following transmitter "--Generic-- auto_default" it will eventually scan through all the multiplexes (in the same way a normal STB will do) but this will take quite a while to do and you may end up with some duplicates. The "Auto Detect" multiplexes option will allow it to find the multiplexes on offset frequencies (you can speed it up by deleting everything above 800,000kHz and below 400,000kHz as they are not used in the UK for tv.).

Kev:
Thanks, out of date db explains what was happening. I ran across this resource [[http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=TQ339712]] that identifies the frequencies and some of the other settings for transmitters across the UK. It is a useful resource for finding a good mux in a particular area. I am up and running now!
Cheers,
Will
