HDHomeRun Prime + tvheadend - Confirm working?
Added by Travis Busen almost 12 years ago
Can anyone confirm that the prime model with the cable card works? I've read so much info in this and never saw a confirmation. I read two issues. 1). Only two tuners show up (if at all) b/c of dvb homerun drivers. 2). If it is recognized, few channels actually scan in. Can anyone confirm this?
I'm using mythtv .25 now and brings my openelec box to it's knees. I'd love to use a lightweight backend like tvheadend, but documentation on this tuner seems to be sparse. Most tutorials are referring to the non cable card model.

It is working, I have a prime and all 3 tuners show up and all work. I think the 2 tuner limitation was fixed in a recent update.
Regular channels pick up no problem, the premium ones do not automatically map but I believe there is a patch:

Make sure to turn off Full Mux

I went through those links and I have some questions before I start running things. When you say premium channels are you referring to your paid channels like HBO, Starz, Showtime, etc...? Or are you referring to cable channels like USA, TBS, TNT, HDTV, etc...
I ask because from the information you gave me it looks like I just need to use link 2 and create a custom location mapping file, add it to TV head end and map the channel names right? In the example in that link it showed what I refer to as 'cable channels'. When I speak of premium channels I mean HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, Movie Channel, Starz, etc....
Are we using the same terminology?
In summary
Link # 1 was the patch for 'premium' channels' that I would have to build from source to use, correct?
Link # 2 is the one to get all your channels less premium channels mapped by creating a custom location file, correct? This is the one I think I want to use
Link # 3 is for the PVR functionality - I look more into that later, I don't think it actually will affect my streaming of live tv
Link # 4 is a but to watch that breaks dvb during the scanning process, looks due to bandwidth? I take it this is just a heads up for me :-) thanks
Sorry for having you explain this to me like I'm five, but I'm now on my 3rd fresh install of Lubuntu cause I keep screwing things up!
TLDR; Do steps in #2 to get my channels?

I followed all those links. I have tvhe 3.2.34 running on linux mint 13. Using my custom dvb location file I am able to pick up all of my locals (ABC, NBC, Fox, etc..) and all but two of them in HD.
None of my cable channels come in though. The link you posted referring to the patch I believe is applied now in production. I don't have premium like HBO, just normal like USA, TBS, etc..
Your last piece of advice was to turn off full mux. I can't figure out how to do this. Adam Sutton said on IRC that's you can't do that in 3.2. So what version are you using? How exactly did you do this?
Thanks for your help.
