Tvheadend, HDHomeRun and missing channels

Added by foo bar over 3 years ago

I recently set up a Chromebox with Libreelec 9.2.6 and HTS Tvheadend 4.2.8-36. The OTA tuner I'm using is an HDHomeRun HDHR4-2US with the latest firmware. And pretty much everything works

The setup wizard recognized my HDHomeRun and scanned the channels. I live in Seattle, so I chose ATSC Seattle during setup (forgot the exact name, sorry). The problem is that I can see 55 channels from the HDHomeRun add on, but only 25 or so in TvHeadend. Some muxes, like for example mux 4 (4.1, 4.2, 4.3) are not shown, even if HDHomeRun can tune those

The probable cause is that the signal on that mux is weaker than most, so from time to time the image might have problems. I tried adding a manual mux, using 566MHz, what is supposed to be the right frequency for that mux, but no luck

Is there a way to manually add a channel or configure the automatic scanning to also accept lower quality channels?

Replying my own question, I hate when that happens :) but I thought other people might want to see the answer

It is possible to manually enter channels, and it's a 2 step process. First in the Configuration/DVB inputs/Muxes it's possible to add a new frequency and have it scanned. Then in the Services tab, select Map Services and choose Map Selected Services from the drop down.

Then in Configuration/Channels EPG, select add and find the newly added channel, mapping all the necessary data including EPG source if one is used

I can't really say "easy once you know it", but it's easy enough once the logic becomes clear :)

One more reply, in case someone in the future bumps into this. I decided to add all the possible frequencies to the Seattle ATSC scan table, and opened a github issue with the new file attached, in case the maintainers of the project want to replace the old one https://github.com/tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables/issues/103. With that file, during the new installation, all channels were picked up properly and automatically recognized (including EPG)

i can use your help. I see many muxes but no services. Not sure what the issue is. I would also like to learn how to add services manually. Thanks.
