Install with no m3u link

Added by Shaun Chapman over 3 years ago

Hi,
I seem to keep going around in circles trying to install a pvr on my synology nas. I have tried others in containers which baffles me and i cannot get to work, there seems to be no guides that walk you through every step as a newbie, and I cannot find (or dont understand) how to setup tvheadend without an M3u link which i dont have.
I use Snook streams who dont supply m3u just an url for apps that then let you sign in to that url/account. Any help would be very much appreciated. I mangaged tvmosaic very easily but it is only a trial and for some reason which isnt trial related only records part of the programmes. TVHeadend has brilliant reviews and is installed through packages on My synology nas no problem its the setting up thats the problem.
Hope someone can help before i start banging my nut on the infamous wall.

Are you wanting to use TVH for IPTV or OTA?

If you want to use OTA, you'll need a tuner of some sort.

If you want IPTV, you'll need at minimum a URL that will get to access to the video stream(s).

If you want to use TVH as a PVR, you'll also need access to EPG data in XMLTV format.

If you have a URL to an mpegts stream, you can construct a .m3u file like this:

#EXTINF:-1,Name of channel
https://address.of.provider/path/to/channel

If you just have an IP address and you need to log in, it might be possible to construct a URL containing the login
credentials, but how this is done really depends on the provider.

Your options are: 1) Find someone else who has done the same thing & can help, or 2) Log into your App while sniffing the network with something like wireshark, which will reveal the URL the App is accessing after you've logged in - this may or may not give you something you can use with TVH.

If you want to get TVH working, I suggest you look for a free IPTV URL or .m3u that you can use to test. There are quite a few that are free to access [e.g. PlutoTV, Deutsche Welle, Bloomberg, Euronews].
