using the August DVB-T210 with tvheadend and raspbian
Added by Samuel Johnson almost 5 years ago
have been following this guide: https://medium.com/@robhowlett/diy-pvr-with-raspberry-pi-and-tvheadend-7866b588e270
and have gone to select my DVB adapter and none are showing. I have my adapter plugged into a powered USB hub and am running the latest version of Raspbian. I installed all the firmware shown in the guide and some more firmware I got of off this forum. I also do not seem to have the folder /dev/dvb/ which could have something to do with it but am not sure.

I have the same problem and I am absolutely stumped. Did you manage to make it work in the end?

did you both check dmesg to make sure the kernel found the device and loaded the driver?

Thank you for the reply. Yes - I have checked. It looks like the driver is not included in the current version of Raspbian. I tried following some long instructions for compiling a kernel with the driver but in the end I gave up and decided to use a TV tuner that is compatible with the current version of Raspbian. I have kept the DVB-T210 in the hope the Raspbian will include the driver in the not too distant future.

Just out of interest, which tuner did you go for?

I am using a RTL2838 with a coax adapter so that I can plug it into my loft aerial.
This is what lsusb
gives: ID 0bda:2838 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. RTL2838 DVB-T
I bought it off eBay to feed flight data to FlightRadar24 and FlightAware. This is the listing description: USB DVB-T &RTL-SDR Realtek RTL2832U & R820T DVB-T Tuner Receiver MCX Input OM
I knew this device worked with Raspberry Pi based on research on how to set up a flight data feeder. Unfortunately I won't be feeding flight data until the August DVB-T210 is compatible with Raspbian. Note the version of this tuner is important (I suspect version 1 works but that is not the version currently on sale).

Can you plug the august in & do lsusb on it (can be on your desktop or pi). I just want to see if it's the newer T230C (Geniatech/MyGica T230C) or the older Geniatech/MyGica T230

Here is the relevant line from doing lsusb
:Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0572:c68a Conexant Systems (Rockwell), Inc.
