PCTV 290e DVB-T2

Added by Bill Mackie over 12 years ago

Hello, I am trying to move away from Windows and am giving this app a shot, thank you for creating it.
Should the version installed from sudo aptinstall hts-tvheadend be capable of receiving freeview HD channels?
Also is it possible to add my freeview channels manually using this info as I dont think setting for my country will be built in:

Thanks!

I managed to get a PCTV 290e DVB-T2 tuner installed on my PogoPlug last night. I installed Debian Squeeze to a cheap Lexar external 8GB USB stick, then downloaded and compiled TV Headend, then rebuilt the linux media modules (which entailed using apt-get to install a bunch of stuff - including kernel headers) as per information here : http://stevekerrison.com/290e/ and here http://git.linuxtv.org/media_build.git (I also installed a Nova-TD USB stick which required me to download firmware for that stick)

Was very pleased this all worked. Am a relative Linux newbie (never compiled anything before!)

By default the UK Crystal Palace mux list only contains the 6 DVB-T muxes and doesn't include the extra (and temporary) 7th DVB-T2 mux that carries HD services. I added this in the Muxes tab for the TV Adaptor entry for my DVB-T2 stick (entering the frequency of 544000 and an 8MHz bandwidth, but leaving everything else on auto). It found BBC One HD, BBC HD, Channel 4 HD and ITV1 HD with no problems and they all stream fine into XBMC.

Haven't done much else yet - and no idea how stable it is. I don't have a great RF feed where I am at the moment and was getting some infrequent continuity errors. I believe the PCTV 290e drivers are still being developed as well so there may be issues that appear longer term. For 4 hours work I'm quite chuffed though!
