Two TVHE instances one dual tuner

Added by Andrew Wolfe almost 6 years ago

I have an HDHomeRun Connect Duo two tuner device and I have two Raspberry Pis each running TVHE/Kodi via OSMC. When I watch live tv on one Pi box, it appears to occupy both tuners, as if I try to watch tv using the other Pi it tells me there are no adapters available.

I tried using one TVHE server for both boxes, but on the Pi that wasn't hosting TVHE the playback was poor (everything running over ethernet). I have also set the EPG updates to happen just twice a day (at different times between both boxes), so I don't think they are getting in the way.

Is this expected behaviour, or is there some tweak I can make?

EDIT: I have just tried using the HDHomeRun client app at the same time as one of the R Pis and that worked OK.

What Tvheadend version do you run, see most right located About Tab(in browser)?

What firmware version is your "HHR Connect Duo"?

Does your "HHR Connect Duo" gets detected with 1 or 2 tuners (Configuration > DVB Inputs > TV adapters)?
For instance the "HHR Expand" gets listed as 4 tuners, which for example the 1st and 2nd tuner can be used by one tvheadend instance and the 3rd and 4rd by another tvheadend instance on a other machine.

If 2 tuners were detected did you assign only 1st tuner to one tvheadend on 1st pi and the 2nd tuner on the other 2nd tvheadend pi instance?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

Both Pis are using TVHE version 4.2.6. The HHR Connect Duo firmware is up to date at version 20180817.

The picture shows what is seen in each TVHE. As you can see I did do what you suggested and allocated one tuner to each device, and initially nothing changed, but later it was working, that is I could watch live TV on both devices at the same time. So this does work, but of course it means that only one tuner can ever be used by one device, and so I can't record and watch a different channel from the one device at the same time.

It does seem odd that if I allow both devices to use both tuners and tune just one device, I can see in the HDHR page that one of the tuners is idle, but the other Pi says there is no free adapter available. It is as if TVHE is always trying to grab all the available tuners in the adapter.

So I have ended up returning the HDHR tuner in exchange for the four tuner version. Not ideal, but at least each RPi has access to two tuners.
