How to use auto switch service with IPTV?

Added by nope nope about 6 years ago

Hello all, I have my tvheadend setup and working with an IPTV provider. Everything seems to work just fine except i want it to automatically switch to a different service if a channel is bad. I thought i has it setup right, but if i try and tune a channel that happens to be down at the moment, i do not see tvheadend trying to tune any other services, it just keeps retrying the same service.

Ill use Fox News as an example as this is the latest channel to give me this problem.

I have 1 Fox News channel setup in tvheadend. That one channel is linked to 6 different services, that are all under 1 network.

Fox News US HD
Fox News US HD backup
Fox News US SD
Fox News CA HD
Fox News CA HD backup
Fox News UK HD

Initially all muxes were set to service ID 0, i tried changing the numbers of the service IDs and it made no difference.

Also, as im not sure if this will have an impact or not. I am using pipe ffmpeg, i have a script that downloads my M3U list, adds the pipe information directly to the m3U file itself and then sends the m3u over to tvheadend.

Any help is greatly appreciated as this was one of the features that had me most excited about tvheadend, but sadly its not working for me. Its probably something simple that im just over looking. I am still a bit new to TVH.

I think the way it is supposed to work [unfortunately the documentation isn't helpful] is that if you have mutliple channels with the same content, you assign each of them a different priority in Configuration/DVB Inputs/Services.

Then in channel config, assign all the services to 1 channel.
