Afatech AF9015 and TVHeadEnd

Added by Nick Gallop almost 14 years ago

Hi,

I'm trying to get TVHeadEnd working with a USB DVB-T Stick (AF9015 Chipset), but don't seem to be able to get live TV working.

My initial problem was that services were not being detected for Melbourne Australia even though the pre-defined mux list showed 100% quality when selected.
This was resolved by running a w_scan and gathering the mux frequencies manually and entering them by hand.
At this point all channels were detected as expected.

My problem now is that when I attempt to watch live TV from the TVHeadEnd web browser interface, the VLC window opens and shows either a completely black static screen or a static image from the selected channel.
I've tried connecting to the TVHeadEnd server from my Windows desktop and this gives exactly the same problem.

Server is an Ubuntu 10.10 install with all updates installed and TVHeadEnd installed from the ppa repository at lars-opdenkamp/xbmc-pvr
For reference, installing mythtv using apt-get on the same system enables me to scan for channels and view live TV in Myth, so I don't think it's a tuner or Ubuntu problem.

Are there any logs I can provide?

Thanks.

Transport error indicator and Continuity counter error seem to be my problems.

I've also just noticed that my AF9015 is showing up as 2x AF9013's.
Perhaps this is normal, I'm not sure, but it is a dual HD tuner so would expect to see 2 interfaces.

RE: Afatech AF9015 and TVHeadEnd - Added by Nick Gallop almost 14 years ago

It also seems that over time, the mux quality reduces to 0%.
It's fine when first added (100%), but then degenerates to 0% over the next few mins.

RE: Afatech AF9015 and TVHeadEnd - Added by Laurent Claudel almost 14 years ago

I had this kind of problem with an Afatech AF9013. The mux quality was going from 100% to 0% in an hour or so. To fix it , under the Configuration, TV Adapter Tab, unselect "Monitor signal quality" and "Idle scanning". I have also "Autodetect muxes" disabled but I don't remember if that's required or not.

RE: Afatech AF9015 and TVHeadEnd - Added by Nick Gallop almost 14 years ago

Done some more testing tonight, another fresh install, this time 32bit Ubuntu 10.10 instead of 64bit.

Fully updated and installed tvheadend and xbmc from the ppa repository as defined on the xbmc forums.

I still have to manually supply the muxes as the pre-defined ones don't detect any channels, but once defined and services have been added I can record live TV and see the .mkv files being created.
I can open these .mkv files with vlc and they play fine (video and audio).

This tells me that there's nothing wrong with the tuners or the signal, so why can't I watch live TV?
Same problem as before, select 'Play' on EPG tab and player window opens (all codecs previously installed), but all I get is a black window and no video.

RE: Afatech AF9015 and TVHeadEnd - Added by Nick Gallop almost 14 years ago

Well it seems that I finally got it working, not sure what the problem was, one minute black screen, the next working video.
Nothing changed other than stopping and starting tvheadend service a few times.

Unfortunately the quality in both the vlc view window of TVHeadEnd and XBMC is no where near the quality I get when watching live TV through Windows Media Center. TVHeadEnd is blocky and pixelated and keeps stuttering and pausing. I don't have either of these problems in Windows.

Looks like I won't be moving to TVHeadEnd permanently anytime soon :(
