How to get EPG Guide with XMLTV to work

Hi everyone

I have tried on and off the last months to get to understand how you populate your TVheadend server with EPG information.
But I'm stuck and my head is spinning.
Can anyone help me in a very "step by step" manor. and maybe straighten out some of my question marks I have.

I run a TVheadend server on a LinuxMint18 machine.
I have installed some xmltv grabbers and would first of all want to try the "tv_grab_se_tvzon" grabber.

There are quite a few posts in that thread detailing step-by-step instructions for XMLTV data ...
