upgrading
Added by Ash Guest over 7 years ago
i've been running successfully 4.1-2405~geb495a0~xenial for the last couple of weeks, although i've had a couple of crashed, so thought i should update to the latest, i understand i can get the latest builds here: https://doozer.io/mpmc/tvheadend/builds
i did this:
wget https://doozer.io/artifact/52LQba4DYc/tvheadend_4.1-2459~g4c1ce69~xenial_amd64.deb
and then:
sudo dpkg -i tvheadend_4.1-2459~g4c1ce69~xenial_amd64.deb
It appeared to install successfully, however, i got the following message:
tvheadend: error while loading shared libraries: libdvben50221.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
am i doing something wrong? i've now uninstalled and reverted back to the last build on the repo (4.1-2405~geb495a0~xenial) and back up running again, but in the future i would like to upgrade and would like to understand where i went wrong (if possible)!

aghhh that simple, thanks Mark
To prevent this in future I've added it to the dependency list for deb packages. It should appear in master when perexg merges the PR.

Hi,
do i need to uninstall the previous version then install the new one? not sure what i'm doing wrong?!
htpc@htpc:~$ sudo dpkg -i tvheadend-dbg_4.1-2467~g6105413~xenial_amd64.deb

You're installing the debug package - install the none dbg package first.

sorry ... should have checked which link i copied... i've now installed the correct version and i dont get any error.. however i noticed the web front end would load not or kodi couldn't connect..
on my previous version i think TVheadend used to run under the user hts? when i do a "ps -eaf | grep tvh" i only get:
htpc 2531 2389 0 12:21 pts/17 00:00:00 grep --color=auto tvh
where htpc is my local user, i've just removed TVheadend and installed the older version again and with the working (older version) i now get:
hts 3727 1 2 12:26 ? 00:00:16 /usr/bin/tvheadend -f -u hts -g video
htpc 3909 2389 0 12:36 pts/17 00:00:00 grep --color=auto tvh
thanks for your continued support...

I think you might be missing dvb-apps. The dependency was missing from the deb control file - I've opened a PR to add this in..
So..
sudo apt-get install dvb-apps;
then install the newer deb & it should hopefully start working.
RE: upgrading - Added by Ash Guest over 7 years ago
Hmmm, i installed that first, just checked again and get : dvb-apps is already the newest version (1.1.1+rev1500-1).
any idea?

Ok, with the newer version installed try starting tvheadend like this (make sure it's stopped)..
sudo -u hts /usr/bin/tvheadend -c /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend
That should tell you the problem :p If it starts without error. Stop it & do this..
sudo systemctl disable tvheadend; sudo systemctl enable tvheadend; sudo systemctl start tvheadend;
:p

thanks Mark... again!
it showed that there was a invalid file in /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/dvr/log/ which there would have been! as i tried to (sometime ago) manipulate some of the recording logsto see if i could "migrate" recording from my old PVR backend... i couldn't so i gave up and just watched them through VLC, but forgot about the file that i changed/renamed!!!
all up and running! thanks again

Just a small note - install the latest build 2471 to avoid issues with multi-tuner setups :p
