Tvheadend with HDHomeRun

Added by Alex Commerce almost 8 years ago

This really should be simpler than it is. I've been banging my head against the wall all morning and can't crack this code. There is a ton of possibly outdated information on the web, and possible in this forum. Let me tell you what I have and what I want to do.

I have the following:

1) Raspberry Pi 3
2) HDHomeRun CONNECT

I want to install raspbian and get Tvheadend running so that it can service 2 Kodi boxes on the same network. I performed the following:

1) Installed setup latest Raspbian jessie LITE build
2) Added the Tvheadend respository to the /etc/apt/sources.list (deb http://dl.bintray.com/tvheadend/deb jessie release)
3) Successfully installed tvheadend successfully
4) Ran "sudo apt-get install libhdhomerun-dev" (not sure if this was necessary)
5) Reboot

However, my HDHomeRun tuners are not showing up under Configuration -> DVB Input -> TV Adapters

Did I miss a step? What do I need to do to get these things to show up?

I also went to this page:
https://www.tvheadend.org/projects/tvheadend/wiki/HDHomerun

It says "that page explains how to get TVH to recognize the HDHomeRun", but I don't see anything on that page explaining how to even install it, much less get it to recognize the HDHomeRun.

Well, I threw in the towel and just installed OSMC and added it as an app. And just like that, the tuners showed up. Not sure what black magic they're doing on their side, but whatever. It's working. To anyone else who comes along, save yourself some trouble and just throw OSMC on. Once you get Tvheadend added, you can unplig it from the monitor/tv and have it in full headless mode.

Installation of libhdhomerun-dev might have been the reason as Tvheadend has it's own driver included. Not sure if that applies to armhf though.

I thought I tried that, yesterday. One poster talked about what you're suggesting; the additional drive causing a problem. I ended up re-imaging the sdcard a number of times and starting fresh, and while I believe one of my tries was a clean install without any drivers I couldn't swear to it. I'm going to put a post up in the main area with my experiences in case someone else with my particular case comes along. I spent so much time sifting through posts (here and on other sites), many that were 3 or 4 years old. I'd like to save someone else the headache.
