Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery
Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello, this is my first post and hopefully an expert can solve something which should work. Using Ubuntu 14.04 as my os.
I don´t see the install of sat>ip being difficult but damn when you place Http://127.0.0.1:9981 into your web browser there should be that welcome interface to greet you. All i get is that annoying unable to connect screen every time.
Before you guys start telling me to google or do the install at said link - yes i have followed the tutorials to the bone , but something is definitely wrong.
Can i just go through what i did and see if the error is there :
-----------------------------------------------------
sudo apt-key adv --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:80 --recv-keys 379CE192D401AB61
sudo apt-get install curl
curl http://apt.tvheadend.org/repo.gpg.key | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-add-repository -r http://apt.tvheadend.org/stable
sudo apt-add-repository http://apt.tvheadend.org/unstable
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install tvheadend
Administrator: root
password: bm2lts
Call tvheadend with http://local host ip : 9981
Tvheadend is on my pc so using my local ip http://127.0.0.1:9981
Never asked me for the pw because i always get connect failed.
I also opened port 9981 on my router.
At the moment i am using vdr to view tv/sat via 3 sat tuners on a seperate board to my main board.
I stop the vdr with :
sudo killall -g vdr
Before typing http://127.0.0.1:9981 into browser.
That´s my install but nothing works ......
Please help and thanks .

Hello Mark,
I made a mess of the install i think , it must be me. Tdt channels were found and mapped into kodi but not the satellite ones.
Only the channels that are shown in "Channel / EPG" will show up in Kodi, you may have to clear the PVR data.
The muxes were there but i went out and came back but the screen was the same , just muxes .
I'm not sure what you mean here, muxes shouldn't even appear in Kodi, only mapped channels.
I thought may be get rid of the stable and bring on unstable or testing .
This is how i did that :
[...]
On entering < sudo apt-get install tvheadend > i get the below message :
[...]
I am confused now, so why this message , it dosen´t make any sense ?
Why is this made so difficult ?
It's not difficult but things mess up & get very confusing :p.
You can clean up your install quite easily.
sudo apt-get remove --purge tvheadend sudo deluser hts sudo rm -r /home/hts/.hts
then reinstall, just make sure your package list is correct
Watch out for that rm command, make sure you enter the path as shown!!
Please help and thanks.
Take things one step at a time, make sure there are no errors at all for each command. You're more than welcome to add me on facebook if that's easier for you (mpmcuk).

Good evening Mark,
Made good progress on the web interface and tvh starts up nicely with passwords being auto filled by my browser.
There is one problem no signal on/ channels on all 5 tuners.
I have a 4 port DiSEqC Switch :
Port 1 - 13.0 e hotbird
Port 2 - 19.2 e astra 1
The Lnb is called a monoblock twin tuner, link below.
The DiSEqC Switch is built into the monoblock , so switching , ( in theory ), is done automatically.
Ah...but is it, nooooooooo......well , not in tvh but it is probably 100 % me not grasping the innards of it all.
The muxes are all loaded in, no signal , not even a sniff of life.
My head is spinning out of control due to the many tutorials over the web.....but !! i don´t understand them too well.
Would it be possible to show me in baby steps how it´s done.
Many thanks again .
PS: attachments below.
Note - Using the unstable ppa from the bintray .

I don't personally use switches so know little about them. I only have access to 28E. Try getting one network working first then add the rest. I think you need to figure out which position in tvheadend = the position/port on the switch.
I'm not 100% sure why you're using minisatip & tvheadend on the same machine, why not just let tvheadend handle the local tuners?
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Mark,
The reason for using the tvheadend is as a backend ( so to speak ) for Kodi media centre.
Minisatip is used on it´s own but when you click on play to load in a channel vlc shows up blank.
I think i have just answered the question myself on why run both apps . I prefer tvheadend as a backend for frontend Kodi. If only i can get the channels to load.
Thanks again for the suggestion of getting one channel tuned in and the rest will follow.

Hello Paul,
i'm a little bit confused by your setup. You are talking about a Monoblock LNB with two positions and two outputs (twin) and five tuners. In your screenshot, there are four tuners. On tuner #1, there are four configured satellite positions.
Could you please clarify your setup?
Kai
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Kai,
No problem , here´s a run down of it :
Tuner 1
-------
- DiSEqC Switch 4 x 1
- port 1 - aa > astra 19.2 e
- port 2 - ab > hotbird 13.0 e
- port 3 - ba > astra 28.2 e
- port 4 - bb > hispasat 30.0 w
Note :The monoblock is used only on ports 1 and 2 Two cables power 2 separate receivers. The cable that powers said receiver has a powered splitter 5mhz to 2300 mhz, with two outputs (1) going into port 1 - aa hotbird and the other (2) into port 2 - ab astra 19.2 e . The splitter is used to demux the in coming signal from the monoblock into the diseqc. It´s an unusual setup , but worked fine until i tried it on tvheadend.
Tuner 2
-------
- goes directly into the sat card so :
- port 1 - aa > astra 28.2 e
Tuner 3
-------
- Terrestrial tv card
Hope that´s a better explanation of my setup.
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Kai M. almost 8 years ago
Thanks, that clears it up a bit.. Also from the screenshot, it seems that you are running minisatip on the same PC as tvheadend.
If so, the data from the tuner will be processed into SAT>IP packets, which tvheadend then uses as virtual tuners.
That will add anonther layer of possible problems, maybe you should try to use the tuners directly with tvheadend.
To do this, shut down minisatip by running sudo systemctl stop minisatip
and sudo systemctl restart tvheadend
afterwards. Will the tuners show up in tvheadend then?
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Kai,
Please excuse my absence these past few days.
I ran that initial command first :
reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ sudo systemctl stop minisatip [sudo] password for reel: sudo: systemctl: command not found
I´m stuck on that.
Just can not seem to get rid of the minisatip .
Went into etc > default > minisatip
Minisatip is a file and in that file i initially removed the hash in this line :
# OPTIONS="1 eth0:1 -w 127.0.0.1:8080 -o 127.0.0.1:9001 -b 15640" # remove comment to start minisatip # START=no
Minisatip just refuses to stand down and let tvheadend take over.
Another point i should mention is that in tv adapters the (auto ) mode does not expand to show your tuners.
I think this looks like a lost cause.

sudo service minisatip stop
Would work, if you have the service file, another option would be to remove the package.
apt-get remove minisatip.
then reboot.
Of course none of these will work if you downloaded and made minisatip yourself (using ./configure & make), in which case you may need to run make uninstall from the build directory to remove it.
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello again Mark,
I am lost on the bit about the service file but i opened terminal and entered :
reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ sudo apt-get remove minisatip [sudo] password for reel: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package minisatip
Seems as if Ubuntu thinks minisatip is not in my os ?
In no way whatsoever did i compile the package minisatip myself. I always try to find a built package for Ubuntu 14.04.
Thanks for staying with this problem.

What does
dpkg -S minisatip
output? That should list what package supplies the binary.
It should output something like:
package_name: filepath.
You can then use apt to remove the package.

RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Mark,
I might have put my foot in it , so to speak.
Went ahead and with the search function in ubuntu , located all the minisatip files ....... deleted the lot !
Rebooted , logged into tvbackend and would you believe it - no minisatip . Ah, but under tv adapters is nothing just tv adapters and clicking on it does nothing.
I ran that command :
reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$ dpkg -S minisatip dpkg-query: no path found matching pattern *minisatip* reel@BM2LTSR66RBin:/media/hd/home/reel$
I ran this command after deleting all the minisatip files .
Is that the end now , do i have to re-install my os ?

A simple reinstall of the package would fix it, but you'd need to remember the name and where you got it from!
But deleting files without removing them in the correct way can cause issues.
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Mark,
There were around 20 files, selected all the minisatips and into trash. Just looked in trash and there´s nothing there.
No way can i remember those names.
Can i just link you to a German forum called vdr-portal which is where i got the tvheadend set up .
This will (i think) help you , help me solve this ......maybe ?
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Mark Clarkstone almost 8 years ago
Ah, it all makes sense now. What you've actually got is a custom installation image of Ubuntu 14.04 with extra bits and pieces manually added in! At least that's what I've gathered from that thread.
- What system are you using? Is it a NUC? a regular PC?
- Do you have a SAT-IP box or is the tuner installed/connected to the machine?
I'm going to guess and say it's a NUC with a tuner installed, would it also be used as your media centre?
EDIT: Are you using this? http://wiki.reelbox.org/index.php/NetCeiver. If you are, it looks bloody awesome!
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Mark,
I hope some light at the end of this tunnel.
I was going to update my machine to a nuc but to keep this as simple as i can, i am on a glorified htpc which includes the 3 tuner pci cards in the Reelbox ( the machine ).

Ok, now that you've removed the minisatip & rebooted the machine, does Tvheadend list/show the tuners in the DVB Inputs tab?
RE: Sat>ip not connecting to tvheadend mistery - Added by Paul Brown almost 8 years ago
Hello Mark,

Hello Mark,
urged and removed the unstable ppa and installed the stable version : updated and upgraded and now tvheadend starts but only tv adapters visible - no tuners .
