IPTV recording - failed recordings and 2 channels at once
Added by Iain M almost 8 years ago
I have IPTV set up OK, all channels play fine (the are all http://xx.ts streams) however I am having severe problems with recording.
I am currently getting 2 issues:
- Sometimes recordings do not complete or are broken - they are showing as complete in tvheadend. Using pipe:// seems to have resolved this to some extent but not always.
- Trying to record 2 channels at once fails all the time. I sometimes receive an error of 'missed' recording, sometimes the recording completes but it has actually only recording a few seconds.
I have tried this on several servers, including a 1GB server to make sure it is not an internet connection issue. I am using latest build.
Has anyone successfully set up a server that records more than one IPTV stream simultaneously? If so, what settings do you use?

For your IPTV network, you need to tell it how many streams your "network" can handle. I use IPTV networks to record from my HDHR Primes, so each device is a different IPTV network with the max streams set to "3". Using this setup, I have recorded/streamed 7 HD IPTV streams successfully.

Thanks for this, good to know it is possible - I will try this, I actually looked at this today and it is set to 0 so I assumed this setting was unlimited. Out of interest do you have any particular transcoding / stream settings?

I changed the total max # inputs to 3, still having same issue, when another recording starts the other one fails to complete at the point at which the second one starts. Any other suggestions?. I do not believe there is any hardware / network issues as I have tried on a few networks with the same results.

No, I just use the pass profile for streaming and recording.
And since the recording stops when you start the second stream, it sounds like your IPTV provider is limiting your feeds to only one stream at a time. Sounds like you need to give their support a call to see about supporting multiple streams.

Hmm you could be right, which means adding another subscription to a second IPTV adapter as a source. Do you know of a way to make use of the same channels with 2 different IP sources without doubling all the channels in the EPG, seems like it would be complicated, but from what you are saying you have 2 IPTV sources set up?

I actually have 3 IPTV networks setup. They all use the same muxes except for IP addresses. Since I can control the names of the muxes and services, I name each mux as I want the Channel to be, so when I scan the muxes that is the name of the created Service. Then when I map Services to Channels, they match exactly.
Each Channel is mapped to a single EPG Channel, and each Channel is mapped to 3 Services, one on each network. (Part of the appeal of Tvheadend is you can map one Channel to multiple Services, and then use priority and/or availability of the network/mux/service to choose which Service is used when a Channel is requested.)

Excellent, thanks for your help, I have it all figured out now, your diagnosis is correct, I just need to add another seperate service and it should be good with another subscription as they only allow 1 stream. I thought I had tried this before but obviously not for long enough, so assumed it was a tvheadened issue.
