Missing EPG data from some channels

Added by Arthur Banks over 8 years ago

Hi,

I'm a fairly new user to TVheadend so it's very likely I've missed something horribly obvious.

Anyway, here's my issue.
I'm using a DVBT2 tuner with openelec (due to switch that to Libreelec) and i can see the tuner, it's scanned and found over a hundred channels, many of them show in the OE EPG with a few exceptions which I'm not too worried about (Looking at you shopping channels) but there are a couple I'd really like to have working but aren't.
The particular issue is that the channels that don't work don't even pick up any EPG data and when I try to view them I get a message coming back saying that there is no signal.

Best example at the minute is the BBC Red button channels, I can watch Red button 0 and Red button 1 and their programming shows up in the EPG which is great for the olympics but RB2 and 3 show nothing.
I've added some info from TVHE to show the Mux that they are on and initially I thought it was a Mux issue as the channels on 770 worked fine and 698 didn't.
Anyway, the top two in the list work fine and the bottom one doesn't.

Channel: Service Name: Automatic Checking: Priority (-10..10): Encrypted: Network: Mux: Service: Local Channel Number
BBC One HD: BBC One HD: Auto Check Enabled: 0: Freeview-HD: : 698MHz: 17540: 101
BBC RB 0: BBC RB 0: Auto Check Enabled: 0: Freeview-HD: : 770MHz: 7232: 600
BBC RB 2: BBC RB 2: Auto Check Enabled: 0: Freeview-HD: : 698MHz: 19712: 602

Thanks

Art

Hi

I'm not sure this is a TVHeadend issue, more a bit of a BBC cock-up. I'm in the North West region and BBC RB 2 BBC RB 2 are on the PSB HD Mux (the one with the five main broadcasters HD channels). There has been a lot of problems around BBC reception since the BBC started broadcasting the extended Olympics coverage - one example being CBeebies HD disappearing from Freeview (to the annoyance of my toddler).

In my region, the channels are on 737Mhz. If you go to the Configuration > DVB Inputs > Services tab and filter the "Mux" column by "698" you should see a list of channels including the five HD channels plus the two BBC RB channels. What I noticed is that they are marked as "missing" in TVHeadend so I switched to the Freeview input of my TV and they are not available on there either which suggests that these channels, whilst normally part of the Freeview lineup, are not currently in use whilst the extended Olympics coverage is live.

The "Last Seen" date of BBC RB 2 and BBC RB 3 confirms they 'disappeared' (as far as TVH is concerned) at the end of July which is around the time the BBC made the changes to support the extended Olympics coverage.

I've just returned my Freeview TV and 602 (BBC RB 2) and 603 (BBC RB 2) are NOT in use, certainly not in my region and I suspect elsewhere too from my reading on DigitalSpy etc. 600 (BBC RB 0) and 601 (BBC RB 1) are available but are not currently broadcasting (MHEG banner is displayed saying to refer to digital text 998 for broadcast times).

1) Open the webui on another machine (http://ip:9981
2) In the webui open the bottom panel and click the ^ arrow to keep it open.
3) Go to the Channel / EPG tab, find a channel that doesn't work and copy and paste the link from the play icon into VLC.
4) Watch the output in the log.

That should give you messages as to what is causing the issue, if you're still not sure post it here.

Also remember that channels and muxes can change at any time, so any mapped services that have moved will need to be remapped to a channel (once you've figured out where they've gone!)

I wouldn't bother Mark - I'm 99.9% certain this is a broadcast issue.

I saw your post after I'd posted mine (damn you're fast, I type one handed!) and went to check myself, and yes you're right the channels aren't in use.

Btw, if you feel like helping out, you're more than welcome to help out with the docs! xD

:p

LOL

You've probably seen I spend quite a bit of time around here ;) I really love TVHeadend as a product so if there is anything I can do to help out then let me know :)

Well, we could use all the help we can get, if you're any good with git and markdown take a look at the docs folder and feel free to improve them :)

That's great. At least it confirms I was just being an idiot and had TVHE set up correctly (well, for the most part)

I guess my mistake was thinking that the BBC would use those channels to show other sports but I'm guessing that the other sports are being shown on the MHEG red button streams. There's not a way to get at them is there?

If I'm honest, the BBC have made a mess of the Olympic coverage on Freeview, the full suite of channels is only available to 70% of viewers in the UK - what I can't understand is Winter Hill is one of the largest transmitters in the UK (covering the whole of the North West of England) yet the channels are not available from that transmitter.

This is the best attempt I've seen at explaining this mess.

Thankfully (for some at least) things are much better on cable and satellite where all 16 dedicated channels are available (8 SD and 8 HD).

Yeah I agree.
Even with the few channels I have the EPG and the TV guides (paper ones) say it's a certain sport at a certain time so you tune in to watch Laura Trott racing around a track to find two fellas punching the hell out of each other. My first thought is "oh Cavendish is in a sprint finish again"

Sometimes I wish I had the internet (at home) so I could just stream it. (Also no cable where I live)
