TBS5922SE & RTL2832 USB devices + TVH V4 on Ubuntu 16.04
Added by Andy Bennett over 8 years ago
Hi,
I'm having a problem getting the two devices listed above working with TVH v4.09-6 which I compiled from the GIT sources.
I know that the two devices can coexist because I've switched off the TVH daemon by killing the process with 'sudo kill -9 xxxx', (where xxxx is the process number), and then running Kaffeine to test the hardware and device drivers.
Both devices can record a channel with no problem.
Both devices appear in the dmesg listing and they appear in my TVH setup when I examine 'Configuration/DVB Inputs/TV Adaptors' and, most telling, if I unplug one of them and reboot the other works fine in TVH.
There's a separate issue that the RTL2832 is meant to be a dual tuner USB stick but only shows one 'adaptor' but I can live with that.
Is there anything obvious I can check.
If there's any log files/settings you need, just let me know

OK. In the meantime I've stopped tvheadend with 'sudo servive tvheadend stop' and moved the /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/channel to /home/hts/.hts/tvheadend/channel.old and the same thing with the input directory. I did this after reading the old thread at...

It seemed to get the RTL stick going again but now it's the TBS device that won't work

Open the tvheadend/system log pane (bar at the bottom of the ui) and try streaming a service from your rtl stick, that should tell you whats up.
If the tuners are working happily together in another program they should work fine in tvh.

OK! I'll try that... thanks
In the meantime I've tried using mythtv which I already had installed, (I'd shut it down at startup so it didn't interfere with my testing), and am in the process of using that to see if it can both find and use the two devices.
Of course, I'd prefer to use tvh because mythtv is quite a load on my system, (which is not what one would call the most up to date of PC's... to put it mildly;)), which I also use for browsing and other stuff.
Anyway, I'll let you know
Of course, part of the exercise for me is to try and get things working and to provide help for others who may go through the same steps and have the same problem.
In fact what I MAY do, if I'm still struggling, is to use the TBS box on this system and try and use SAT_>IP connection to stream the data to me my raspberry pi3 which can also handle the RTL.
Anyway, we'll see.

I think I'm making some headway... possibly
For the TBS dvb-s2 box am I supposed to be selecting 'Pre-defined Muxes' or 'Orbital position' in 'network/dvb inputs'?
This is just an old Sky satellite dish that was on my house when I moved in. As I say, I KNOW, for a FACT, it works OK because it's what I use, (with the TBS on it's own), in both tvh AND mythtv. I've had it working with both and, as I say, I've even had it working with Kaffeine with the RTL dvb-t stick both together.

They're both working.. HURRAH
Actually I got them both working late last night but was too tired to come on here and explain what I'd done.
I think what was happening was that when you set one device as getting it's muxes from a pre-defined source in the 'Networks' tab, it somehow loses that setting even if you 'save' the settings if you move off the page and go back to 'Enable' the device in the 'TV adapters' tab.
Anyway, thanks fellas
