Tvheadend-testing 4.1.2076-1 on Synology DS213+, Tvheadend-testing is not starting
Added by Jörg Pfalzgraf over 8 years ago
Hello,
I just installed the TvHeadend-testing 4.1.2076-1 on my Synology DS213+ (DSM 6.0) and I'm not able to start this package. I have been checked user authorisations. What needs to be done in order to start the package?
Regards,
Jörg

Most likely a compatibility issue with DSM 6.0. You can take a look at the SynoCommunity / spksrc forum / github to get an idea about how much "fun" the 6.0 upgrade has created for the 3rd-party package community, but J. Dierkse works independently so the SynoCommunity folks won't support his testing packages or answer questions in that regard...
I see three options for you (might miss others):
(1) You downgrade your Syno to DSM 5.2, if you are still in early stages of setting it up, or you really, really want TVH-Testing
(2) You hope somebody has found some workaround or will be finding one soon (not aware, but haven't looked and might be!)
(3) You hope, watch and wait until J. Dierkse has fixed the issue. TVH-Testing seems to be his private fun project, but haven't seen him in any forum discussions in recent weeks and months, so you simply never know if and when...
Good luck!

Bad news - that version of Tvheadend-testting (4.1.2076) is not working on DSM 5.2 too. So I think its not (only?) DSM issue. When I try to run tvheadend binaries manually I geting segmentention fault in console screen. I think something went wrong while compilation for qoriq arch. Last good version working on DS213+ is 4.1.1943-2.
Only what we can do is wish that mr J Dierkse release another, working version.

Hmmh, sorry to hear that. Running fine on my evansport device. If you feel a little adventurous, you have some time left and you are still on DSM 5.2, you can set up Debian chroot (via SynoCommunity Package), install and run TVH from there. But otherwise, I have to admit I'm out of ideas, too...

Thanks for your tips.
I'm not want to use debian chroot because of small amount of resources in DS213+ (only 512RAM). Last working version isn't bad so it's ok.
Hardware is far to weak for e.g. transcoding so Tvheadend-testing package in DS213+ can't be used in more advanced setups.
As you said erlier - we can wait and hope that next build will be better..

I'm not sure what you mean with "not able to start up". As this sounds like it will not run in the package center and is it automatically shutting down. If that's the case, the following will not help.
I faced the issue after installing that I couldn't login. It was running in the package center, but login refused everything. If this is what you mean with "not able to start up", make sure during install that you don't use the admin, or any other existing user on your Synology. That will prevent you from login in. Be also aware, once TV headend was installed successfully, it created a user on your synology too. You cannot use that one again unless you delete the user from your NAS.
