Parallel Streaming not working
Added by Michael Freudenberg over 8 years ago
Hi All,
I'm facing an issue on my tvheaedend set-up, where parallel streaming is not working properly. If I have one running recording or stream, I cannot connect from a second client (Kodi 15/16 or TVHClient on Android) and start streaming. The running stream stops and the new stream won't start.
My setup is as follows:
Software: TVheadend 4.0.8 on debian jessie (kernel 4.1.19+)
Server: Raspberry PI B+
DVB Hardware: 2x August DVB-T210v2
The DVB usb sticks are capable of DVB-T and DVB-C. I use only DVB-T on both USB receiver (because we have no DVB-C :-( )
The issue occurred first, when I bought the second receiver and added it. My thought was, once I have the first receiver set up, I only need to attach the second one from the same type and it should automatically work - which was the case. But afterwards I hat the issues described above.
Can anyone give me a hint what could be the problem, or where could I start digging?
Thanks,
Michael

You must make sure that both adapters are enabled and assigned a network, Tvheadend won't automatically do this for you.

Hi,
yes I added the network to the second reciever, but this did not cause the issue.
The solution is very obvious. The Rapsberry PI wasn't able to provide enough current for both receiver via the integrated USB ports. I simply connected both receivers via a 4 port USB hub with external power supply and boom I was able to tune two parallel streams. Surprisingly, I could start even more than two streams.
When you watch from two clients on the same DVB-T transponder only one receiver is used. Therefore you can start a stream from a third client - really cool :-). And the best part is, that starting the stream takes only several milliseconds even if other clients are connected (on my last DVB setup it took several seconds!).
Thanks,
Regards,
Michael
