Need Help With Setup -- Can't Find Backend Addon RPi2 Openelec 6.01

Added by Paul Flint over 8 years ago

I just swapped out my old RPi B+ for a RPi2 B+. I have a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR850 which I had working perfectly on the old Pi and OpenELEC 4.xx. I downloaded OpenElec 6.01 for the Pi2, and while I can find the TVHeadend frontend, I cannot find for the life of me where they've buried the backend. I found a note that it's in the Kodi repository, except it isn't.

Is anyone running TVHeadend on a Pi2 with OpenELEC 6.01? If so, where did you find/load/enable the back end for TVHeadend?

Thanks.

It's been moved to the unofficial repository you can find it here: https://github.com/OpenELEC/unofficial-addons/

As to why they've moved it you'll have to ask the openelec guys..

Thanks. Very interesting, indeed.

Here's the problem, though. Other than a windows machine, all I have is the Raspberry Pi running OpenELEC, which is a pretty skeletal build of linux with just enough bits and pieces to run Kodi. The github repository is a sourcecode repository, which doesn't seem to be exactly the same thing as what Kodi calls a repository.

Kodi can install addons from a repository or from a zip file. You can download the entire "unofficial-addons" tree as a .zip, but again, that doesn't contain any compiled addons of the sort that Kodi is looking for, so when you click on "install from zip file" and choose that, you get no entries.

Sorry to be such a luser, but even if I was a linux guru, I'd probably still be handicapped by OpenELEC's out-of-the-box lack of user documentation. It's so front-end oriented, that they've buried and hid all the pieces. I'm not even sure where I'd need to put the addon if I could figure out how to run the make file.

So much for whining... I've been googling into all sorts of dead ends and exploitative websites for what seems like hours. Does anyone know where I can find a ready-to-rock .zip file I can add to my filemanager sources so I can install the tvheadend back end for OpenELEC 6.01 running on the Raspberry Pi2 (the one with the quad-core ARM)?

It would be awesome if that was the answer, but it has no relationship to the actual menu structure of this version of OpenELEC. After System-->settings-->addons, it's entirely different. Choices are "install from repository," "install from zip file," "search," and "system." None of those have anything useful out of the box. If I could add the unofficial repository to the file system, I'd be golden. But, so far, I can't find a usable version of it. To do it, I need a zip file containing the (I'm guessing compiled) Kodi addon. Github let me download a zip file of the complete "unofficial addons" tree, but Kodi shows no contents, so it's clear that's not what it's looking for.

This is beyond frustrating. Earlier versions just had it embedded.

Oh, crap. Sorry. I found it. There's nothing to download. The menus are just a little different than depicted. Here's what you actually have to do:

1) go to System->Settings->Addons->install from repository->OpenELEC Add-ons (official)->Add-on repository

2) choose OpenELEC Add-ons (unofficial) and Install it.

From there you can add on the tvheadend back end the usual way. Go back to Add-ons and select the unofficial repository and pick tvheadend.

Hope this helps others. Thanks for your assistance.
