USB Adapters not found after power-down: Raspberry pi2 on OSMC

Added by Richard McBride almost 9 years ago

I've been using TVH on Ubuntu for several years now, with very few problems.

I'm looking to transfer to a lower power device, and am trying to set up a RPi2 as a lightweight server.
Got everything working with no problem.

BUT, after power-down and re-boot, TVH doesn't find any USB adapters. Funny thing is, simply unplugging them, then plugging in again and TVH sees them, and they appear in the TV Adapters screen.

The USB adapters are on a powered hub, but the same behaviour is shown when they are plugged straight in to the Pi.

Anybody else seen this?

I think that is caused by Tvheadend starting up faster than the tuners are ready/initialized. You could delay the start up of Tvheadend to see if that helps..

Thanks Mark - that would explain it. Is there a simple way to delay the start up of Tvheadend?

I've just tried simulating a delayed start by using

sudo service tvheadend restart

but this didn't fix the problem.

The System Log is empty after the restart.

No - I couldn't fix this problem.
As it turned out, I had another issue with the RPi (I could not get reliable HD streaming from a USB DVB-T2 Tuner), so I re-designed the set-up to use a Banana Pi M+ for the TV (using TVh), connected via ethernet to the RPi, which runs OSMC and has the HDMI connection to the screen. I found this to work better.
