Stuck trying to set up services and channels

Added by W. L. over 9 years ago

Hello:
I am new to TVheadend but have been fighting this for a couple days and can't seem to get the channels set up for over the air (I'm in the US). I'm running TVheadend 3.5 on a CentOS6 machine (I am using 3.5 because there is an RPM package available which I used to install). It found my adapter (Hauppauge WinTV hvr-1950) just fine, I enabled it, but it didn't do an initial scan on its own. When I click on "Add DVB Network by Location", the popup window opens but it is empty. So I used "w_scan" and it was able to find several channels so I know the adapter is good. I added in a couple of mux entries manually using the frequencies from w_scan, I selected QAM-64 however I only get QAM-64 and QAM-256 in the drop-down, 8VSB isn't listed so I'm not sure if that is really necessary. It added though as QAM-64 and says it's 100% quality. But, I thought that after that, the entries should appear under Services tab, but nothing appears there. After I add the mux, I see that "Muxes awaiting initial scan" goes to 1, then goes to 0, then nothing happens after that.
Not sure if there's anything else I can check??? I really appreciate the help. I am hoping there's a simple fix to get TVheadend working... the adapter and hardware and all that seems good so this appears to be a software issue to me.
thanks!!!

I ended up getting a little farther by editing the file:

/etc/tvheadend/dvbmuxes/_dev_dvb_adapter0_Samsung_S5H1411_QAM_8VSB_Frontend

and changing the constellation value to "8VSB", since QAM-64 and QAM-256 were the only things that showed up for me to select. I restarted tvheadend after making that change. Now, I can now click "Map DVB services to channels" and it scans now. I'm assuming I now have to add channels. I'll read up on that next.
