Transcoding with latest git
Added by Manuel 3 over 9 years ago
Hello,
I made myself a transcoding server, which basically takes another TVH server and transcodes its muxes to h264,
(because my TVH server is a NAS with not enough power for transcoding, but with excellent USB DVB-interface management!)
so I had this setup up and running with European DVB-T/S streams
Input: MPEG2 TS with ~1,5mbit/s
Output: h264 with ~0,5mbit/s
Now I updated my transcoding server (stupid move!) and built tvheadend again from the latest git.
(I use --enable-ffmpeg-static)
Now the Output is the following:
h264 with ~1,2 mbit/s
What has changed? I built ffmpeg from source now and still no drop in bw...
I need the compression as I'm watching it via VPN with ~1,2 mbit/s
And of course I wonder why it was so effective the first time.
It seems like it's not even trying to transcode....

my fault!
The Bitrate setting was turned on in the meanwhile and the server did what it was told to:
deliver the stream in best quality!
Setting the bitrate now greatly reduces Bandwidth.
