OSMC + Hauppauge 950Q + Tvheadend +RPi B+ = Nothing

Added by Dustin Wood over 9 years ago

I am having a heck of a time trying to get my DVR system set up. I have looked and looked and looked, and nothing seems to be working for me. I also notice that a lot of the help seems to be geared towards more knowledgeable people. Suggestions seem to be missing some previous steps. Steps that I'm guessing are assumed. I'm a noob with linux.

So here's what I've got. I have OSMC installed on a Raspberry Pi B+. I have a Hauppauge 950Q connected to a powered USB connected to the Pi. I have the backend software of Tvheadend installed. I can login to the back end of TVheadend. But I'm not sure it's seeing my 950q correctly. I have download the firmware that has said to be the correct firmware, and have moved it over to the lib folder. (I guess. Just following previous directions)

I have followed the step by step for TVheadend v 3.9 here on the forums, but still don't understand it, and still doesn't look like anything is doing anything.

And nothing works for live tv within OSMC. I have MythTV enabled with it set to Localhost backend.

I've attached a screenshot of the TV Adapter selector. It doesn't look like it should be for my adapter.

Where do I start?

Looks okay to me, my devices also appear as the chipset name rather than the device name.

  • If you're trying to receive analogue TV rather than digital (ATSC/DVB) then you need to use Tvheadend 3.4 as analogue was removed in 3.9.
  • Can you see any frequencies in muxes? As without those Tvheadend won't do a thing.
  • If you do have muxes do you see any service names in services?
  • Have you mapped them?

I'm trying to get over-the-air HD. I assume that's ATSC? So that's still covered under 3.9 right?

I don't see any muxes. Nor do I really know what those are. Does that mean that it's just probably not picking up a signal? I'm still using the provided antenna that came with the 950Q. Figured it should see something at least. I'm setting this up in a temp spot before I attach it to my main TV, where I do have an antenna that picks up a good signal.

Try reading this thread in the OSMC forum

Also check the TV signals in your area.

The antenna that comes with the 950Q is a bit of a joke, and unless you are near the transmitter tower and/org have a really strong signal, you will most likely need something better.
